I'd like to take a moment to remind everyone of Murphy's Law.

You may not call it that. You may not know it exists. But I promise you, it holds true for every culture, in every time period, in every universe:

Anything that can go wrong, will.

Does it seem like a bad idea? It is. Is there a chance it'll blow up in your face? It will, and probably everyone else's face too. Is it going to make strangers mad at you? Don't do it.

[ She looks the camera dead in the eye, glaring as though she can stop people from being stupid by sheer force of will. She will damn well try regardless.

There's a pause while she hopes that sinks in. ]

Also, this may be an unpopular opinion, but I'm sharing it anyway:

Necromancy is never the answer.

Minako wants to acknowledge that. Upfront. Because she gets it. She gets Steph's entire energy here, really, even though Minako is sounding.. a bit more strangely tired than she otherwise does. ]

But I think that if the people who did this really cared about other people's opinions, they wouldn't have done so in the first place. I don't think anything is going to convince them.

[ Despite her somewhat playful tone in other conversations, her voice now is thoughtful and sincere. ]

I'm not sure exactly what happened or why, but I don't think this is the outcome they wanted. Not all of them, at least.

[ Yes, Izo, she has seen you talking to other people. ]

It wouldn't be the first time someone with good intentions made a mistake. Not even just in the last few months.

And it's not really about that, anyway. You can't talk assholes out of being assholes, I know that. But they had help, and they were seen fooling around near the tomb. This didn't happen in a vacuum.

I learned the hard way, more than once, just how badly things can go wrong. I can't stop that from happening to anyone else, but I hope they can at least learn to see it coming.

[ Minako is quiet, listening to the other. It's hard to tell why she's taking this in such a more cynical way. Maybe it's because of what happened to her during the entire thing, making it clear exactly just how serious all of it was. Maybe it's since she always had to be the hard one, in order to protect her princess' softness.

It leaves her quiet for yet another moment, even after Steph has finished, before she speaks on. ]

This isn't just a mistake, though.

[ Sure, maybe some people let themselves be lead on by others. But-- ]

They could have seen something like this coming, if they'd mess around that badly. It's not like they were pulling off some harmless little prank. Doing stuff like that has consequences. People could have died. Some probably did die.

I and many others do appreciate the attempt at speaking common sense, but I am afraid it is in vain.

[ Monika had made a point to ignore all messages sent by Stephanie since their last discussion, but now that she'd made peace with Kipposhi there really was no point in being needlessly spiteful. Especially when in the grand scheme of things, they were on agreement when it came to such things. ]

I have already spoken to one of the culprits, and he has whatsoever no concept of responsibility. In fact, said individual replied to you with the same attitude than before. [A sigh.] Trying to reason with someone who rejects reason may be the hardest thing in the world.

[ Steph is just. Going to pretend none of that happened. Hello total stranger! She shrugs. ]

I'm not really trying to reason with the culprits. But like... the moment I heard somebody had been messing with a tomb, I knew it was going to be trouble. I just hope that next time, other people know it too.

[ She grimaces. ]

And hopefully one of us does something about it before it's too late instead of sitting back waiting for the storm to hit.

For what it's worth, I hacked into his phone. Hoping to find a trail leading to the mastermind. [She shook her head.] Nothing. Not the shadow of a hint, even when retrieving deleted data.

[ If she wanted to try and stop such things from happening again, Monika assumed Stephanie could make use of this info. Or lack thereof. ]

They knew. They knew it would go wrong and that we'd try to stop them from doing something like that again. They made sure not to use anything leaving evidence behind and they recruited only those foolish enough to not reveal their identity. [As far as she was concerned, it was proof they had whatsoever no good intent. If it had been a honest mistake, they wouldn't have been so cautious about staying in the shadows.] There will be a next time if nothing is done. I can only hope we'll manage to do the right thing before it comes to this.

it's a delicate balance. unless you avoid getting involved in major events, then you only have to worry about, like, prom being ruined because somebody spiked the punch.
