Um, hey there. Ah, Ruby Rose, here. I'm new, but you probably figured that.

[Okay, she's definitely a little bit nervous. Ruby's not exactly what one would call a social butterfly - she definitely got comfortable enough with Beacon to make friends there, but that's not really relevant anymore. Once she had any downtime in Atlas, she didn't know what to do with herself. And now, THIS? Is a lot to adjust to.

She fidgets and clears her throat.] So, got a tiny question, here...

I think I kinda get the whole familiars thing, but mine is, well... it puts me in a bit of an odd place.

Basically, has anyone ever gotten anything that should be a soulless killing machine back in their world? That, I don't know, would've been born in power surrounding your world's greatest evil...? [That, back home, she has a power specifically meant to ERADICATE things like the Grimm, AKA the very form her familiar has taken.] Anything like that?

[She realizes she's being very specific here.]

Because I'll be honest, the fact my familiar isn't trying to eat me, or anyone around me, is almost more unnerving than if he was.

Uhhh, how to put this...

[. . .okay, none of these people are from her world, there's PROBABLY no harm in being honest. And she doesn't exactly want to repeat certain people's mistakes. Whether or not that's a good idea, she can't really say. So... deep breath.]

A creature of pure darkness originating, as far as we know, from a god of darkness and controlled now by an immortal witch trying to subjugate and/or destroy the world. It's called a Creature of Grimm. A Beowolf, to be exact.

[She rattles this off rather quickly, and realizes without context she probably sounds like a madwoman.]

...you know. That kinda thing.

Huh. [ Another second. ] Huh!

[ Okay, done processing. She's decided it's best to operate on "Avalon life is already so goddamn weird" and just not ask too many questions. ]

That's. Kind of wild? Has it gotten up to anything spooky since you got here?

My friend Elfnein has a familiar that looks like a creature called a Noise, in my world. They're monsters that turn people into carbon dust just by touching them.

It doesn't do that here, thankfully.

[She blinks at the crow for a moment, pretty much immediately reminded of her uncle. Who she doesn't know the status of, beyond him ALSO being a wanted fugitive. She quickly realizes she's getting easily distracted though, and rubs her head.]

Oh, good. ... Well. I think. Sort of? But at least it's not just Grimm from our world that are, uh. Like that.

Kinda makes me wonder about what they... ARE, though. Like. There's gotta be something weird there, right? I mean, beyond the obvious, with this whole... situation.

I couldn't even begin to imagine. Maybe whatever creates familiars chooses something that has some sort of connection to us and makes a new creature out of it?

I don't know what the heck I have to do with crows, though.

And I know he doesn't look like much, but he's just a little one and they eat souls!

[Not a Faunus. She's used to people who have animal FEATURES. This is something else, though.

A second later, she frowns at herself.]

Actually, no, yeah, I guess that is pretty rude, when you think about it...

Um! My familiar is, a... monster, I guess is the easiest way to say it. It's called a Creature of Grimm where I come from, a Beowolf. He's just this... inky black wolf creature with like, a skull mask for a face.

Yeah. my familiar is a Barghest. By all accounts, he should be like, eating children and chasing the souls of the damned into Hell. But he's just a big dog to me. Kind of a dope, even.

...My kid has an actual monster for a familiar though. It hasn't done anything wrong, but it's...weird.

[A normal person might be taken aback by that description, but given that's kind of more or less what a Beowolf did besides the literal Hell part, it just gives her some mild relief. Which is weird in itself, but you take what you can get.]

I'm hoping that's all mine is, it's just especially weird when I've probably killed more things that look like him than I can count. [Also having a power back home that nullified the Beowolf's kind just by looking at them.]

So you've got... family here too, then, at least?

Something like that. That'd be putting it a little strongly in my case, but my familiar is definitely a beast that I'd expect to take down dozens of Camelot's inhabitants in normal circumstances.

Maybe that's why they made him so small. Honestly, I feel embarrassed for him.

Come to think of it, I guess mine is smaller than I'd normally expect of their kind, but then they can come in... all sorts of sizes, to be honest.

It'd be honestly kind of funny if I couldn't connect these creatures to so many bad things.

Seems that it's a lot more common than I expected, though. Don't wanna say that makes me feel BETTER, necessarily, but it's not QUITE as disconcerting. Just a little disconcerting.

Ohh, I get it. So your familiar is also your mortal enemy, but for some reason you're forced to work together now, right? It's one of those things where enemies become friends to overcome an even bigger enemy, because they can't win alone! Pog!!

[Ruby muses for a moment.] Y'know, I guess that's one way to look at it. If our world was destroyed, I guess the Grimm would be too...

[What's a ... "pog," though? ... No, no, she's got more important things to focus on. Because that question is actually pretty relevant.]

I, hrm. I guess I hadn't thought about that... but I also don't have much of a choice but to make it work, right? It's not like I can go to a the familiar shop for an exchange.

Fear it. The chick peers at the camera screen and the huntress on the other end. If it could get any closer, it'd probably peck it. ]

Lemme guess. A Grimm?

[Momentarily, Ruby is distracted by the chick.] Aww, that's--

[Pause, blink. Heaaaaaaaad tilt?]

Yeah, that's... exactly it! [Another beat, and she scratches her head.] I guess there's other people from my world here... but that's still a pretty good guess.

While I fully admit, it is not quite the same... my familiar bears a striking resemblance to a mascot that has become synonymous with death and ruin in my world.

[Gundham takes a moment to aim the camera toward his familiar, a bear the size of a small house as he goes about his duties at the animal shelter. The bear cocks its head curiously, its left eye glowing an ominous red and illuminating an oddly shaped scar over that eye. There's a moment before he attaches what can only be described as a crude sketch in MS Paint of what appears to be a teddy bear with a similar eye.]

My sister got a bear too, though it's a lot... smaller and more cuddly.

[She eyes the crude drawing a moment, and looks she's not exactly gifted in that area so she can't judge, she just nods a bit.]

If its that close and related to things like that... I think I can get just how unnerving that sorta thing could be. Even if mine is more, like... cannon fodder.
