Um, hey there. Ah, Ruby Rose, here. I'm new, but you probably figured that.
[Okay, she's definitely a little bit nervous. Ruby's not exactly what one would call a social butterfly - she definitely got comfortable enough with Beacon to make friends there, but that's not really relevant anymore. Once she had any downtime in Atlas, she didn't know what to do with herself. And now, THIS? Is a lot to adjust to.
She fidgets and clears her throat.] So, got a tiny question, here...
I think I kinda get the whole familiars thing, but mine is, well... it puts me in a bit of an odd place.
Basically, has anyone ever gotten anything that should be a soulless killing machine back in their world? That, I don't know, would've been born in power surrounding your world's greatest evil...? [That, back home, she has a power specifically meant to ERADICATE things like the Grimm, AKA the very form her familiar has taken.] Anything like that?
[She realizes she's being very specific here.]
Because I'll be honest, the fact my familiar isn't trying to eat me, or anyone around me, is almost more unnerving than if he was.

[ He's now kind of glad for his little Pixie. ]
What kind of creature is it?
no subject
...
I don't wanna sound rude, but.
[Blink.]
You're a duck.
[Not a Faunus. She's used to people who have animal FEATURES. This is something else, though.
A second later, she frowns at herself.]
Actually, no, yeah, I guess that is pretty rude, when you think about it...
Um! My familiar is, a... monster, I guess is the easiest way to say it. It's called a Creature of Grimm where I come from, a Beowolf. He's just this... inky black wolf creature with like, a skull mask for a face.
no subject
[ He is definitely eager to learn about them though. But not the point at the moment. ]
Wow...that does sound frightening. And these are normal creatures in your world?
no subject
[What can she say, she adapts quickly.]
They're... uh, well it depends on what you call "normal." There's a lot of them across the world, but I'm not sure I'd call them normal.
no subject
[ Honestly, the more questions he asks, the less he's liking the sound of them. ]
no subject
Yeah, the "evil" part generally tends to apply. The Creatures of Grimm are attracted by negative emotions. They hunt and kill people in my world.
I'm a Huntress, technically. My job is basically to fight and kill them. So having one of them tagging along, is.
Well, it's weird.
no subject
And on the one hand, it makes him think of his mother, and how sometimes her police department bargains with criminals in order to catch other criminals. But on the other hand, something that is pretty much considered a monster probably couldn't be reasoned with. ]
And there's no record in your world about these creatures just...existing, without attacking people?
no subject
[She taps her chin.]
Well, I mean, there WAS a time.
But that would've been when all people were basically wiped off the planet. That was... centuries ago. Ancient history. [Seriously ancient.] They existed before then, and after. So they can clearly survive without us, too.
no subject
Oh, sorry! Feel free to correct me if I'm completely off-base.
no subject
Now normally, she's not the most analytical unless in involves battle. But, that's also been changing in her recent experiences. So she considers that for a few seconds.]
No, I actually don't think you're off base at all. If anything, it's not something I think I've really thought about all that much.
Then again, I have a friend who has a power that can... mask emotions, and that generally makes Grimm ignore us.
So... you've actually got a point.
[Hrm. That's actually a little worrying. Time to bury that in the back of her mind and not confront it!]
no subject
Mask emotion? How so?
no subject
My friend, Ren, has the ability to mask a person's emotions. Hide them, effectively - it makes someone basically invisible to a Grimm, like my familiar.
Mine was... super speed. Sort of.
no subject
He isn't sure if that's a fair enough trade off, but it's still really interesting. ]
Fascinating! Abilities like that are rather rare back home.
[ Sure magic and supernatural things and the like exist, but even knowing Mr. McDuck and his family didn't change the fact that it was still pretty uncommon in the rest of the world. ]
Can someone's Semblance change? [ She said hers 'was' super speed, so does she have a different one? ]
no subject
[She tilts her head at the question, then shakes it.] Oh, no. Not that I know of. They can evolve, or become more powerful over time, but not outright change.
When I say "was" I mean before I came here. And even then, super speed is apparently not the right description for what it was, I just... wasn't able to figure THAT out before coming here. But right now I just know that I went fast.
Luckily, I got Kinetic magic coming here.
no subject
I have a friend with Kinetic magic! It's quite impressive. But it must have been strange, no longer using something you're so used to in order to make way for some unfamiliar magic.
no subject
Our powers, our Semblances, are powered by something called "Aura." That Aura is the power of our souls. So I can't... access my own soul's power? And that's really weird. It enhances a lot of what we do, not just powering our Semblances, so... I'm adjusting, but I also kinda feel like I'm fighting blind.

no subject
But then, the ones who brought us here WANT us to help, right? If that were the case, why even take our abilities away in the first place? Kinda makes me think maybe they didn't have a choice in the whole... yanking us here, and everything.
[She shrugs.]
Not having that power is... well, I can't say it doesn't bother me. It was second nature. But I'm not the only one dealing with it. We've just gotta... adjust.
no subject
...But you're probably also be right, maybe the people here didn't have any choice in who was being recruited, like we didn't have any choice in coming here.
I suppose there's nothing we can do now that we're here. We can only make the best of it.
no subject
There's certainly a few folks who've been dragged here that I'd be wondering the "why" to.
...but, you're right. All we can do is do what we can do, right?
no subject
[ He isn't sure if certain functions on the Gizmosuit are deactivated because of the same thing that disabled people's powers, but he wouldn't doubt it. And yeah, it's annoying. ]
Right. Although it can also help to reach out to the people around us too. All of us being in the same boat means that almost everyone is pretty understanding.
[ Almost. He knows there are a few outliers, but for the most part, the people he's encountered have been pretty helpful. ]
