Um, hey there. Ah, Ruby Rose, here. I'm new, but you probably figured that.

[Okay, she's definitely a little bit nervous. Ruby's not exactly what one would call a social butterfly - she definitely got comfortable enough with Beacon to make friends there, but that's not really relevant anymore. Once she had any downtime in Atlas, she didn't know what to do with herself. And now, THIS? Is a lot to adjust to.

She fidgets and clears her throat.] So, got a tiny question, here...

I think I kinda get the whole familiars thing, but mine is, well... it puts me in a bit of an odd place.

Basically, has anyone ever gotten anything that should be a soulless killing machine back in their world? That, I don't know, would've been born in power surrounding your world's greatest evil...? [That, back home, she has a power specifically meant to ERADICATE things like the Grimm, AKA the very form her familiar has taken.] Anything like that?

[She realizes she's being very specific here.]

Because I'll be honest, the fact my familiar isn't trying to eat me, or anyone around me, is almost more unnerving than if he was.

I couldn't even begin to imagine. Maybe whatever creates familiars chooses something that has some sort of connection to us and makes a new creature out of it?

I don't know what the heck I have to do with crows, though.

Mmmmaybe? I'd feel better if he's not ACTUALLY a Grimm, at least. But I probably shouldn't try to fool myself, either.

[She blinks at the crow again, and gives a small, but slightly sad laugh.] Heh, I guess I wouldn't be able to guess on that. Reminds me of my uncle, though.

[Though she's not going to quite tell her the whole "he turns INTO a crow" thing.]

I'd say just keep an eye on it. That's all you really can do in the end.

... My crow reminds me of your uncle?

Oh! Sorry, um. [She looks a bit sheepish.] My uncle, his name is Qrow. With a "Q."

[Definitely still not going to get into the shapeshifting thing.]

That's a really weird name.

Uhm.

No offense to your uncle, I mean.

[She blinks rapidly.]

[... Aw geez. She'd said something rude again.]

... I mean. It's not the sort of name you'd see much. In my world at least.

I mean, his sister's name is Raven. I just figure his tribe had a thing for birds, or something.

[Pause. And she guesses Ozpin just had a thing for silly irony??? Well, whatever.]

Though mostly, people nowadays in my world are named for colors. Like mine!

[trustheart]

... Huh. Your world sounds... kinda interesting.

So are you not a part of your uncle's tribe, then?

[redfightinghood]

[Blinks.] Uhhhh, no, no, not quite. We're not actually related by blood.

[She wrinkles her nose and waves a hand.] It's... complicated. Family stuff.

[Plus, this is open enough she doesn't want to be waving their laundry around with both Yang and Raven around.

She smiles to show she's not offended or anything.] He did train me to fight, though.

[trustheart]

Complicated. Got it.

[Chris was no stranger to complicated familial ties. At least, she knew someone with them, and theirs was much stranger-sounding than Ruby's.]

And I see. That explains the skills you showed off with Miffen.

[redfightinghood]

Ah, yup! Modeled my weapon after his, too!

[She nods along.]

But someone like that wasn't much compared to what we've dealt with. I'm glad I got a magic that was close to my abilities back home.

Lucky you. I've had to figure out how to handle mine from scratch. It pairs well with my bow and arrows at least. I was in the archery club back in my own world, so I'm used to wielding that as a weapon.

[redfightinghood]

[Ruby taps her head.] I wish I knew someone who used a bow, but I actually don't offhand. Our weapons usually just... turn into guns.

But hey, if you need a hand training with it sometime though, hit me up! I'd be happy to help.

Into guns. Someone's luckier than I am.

[She huffs. She misses Ichaival's firepower.]

But, uh, thanks. I'll take you up on that the next time I go to train.

...I take it that's something you're more used to than low tech weapons, then?

[She smiles.] But, good! Maybe I could let you take a couple shots with my Crescent Rose.

[trustheart]

... I'd actually be interested in that. I'll take you up on that in the future.

Awesome! I'll keep it in mind.

Heh, I need more people to train with besides my team, anyway.

I can understand that. It can help you figure out how to fight differently, or explore options you wouldn't attempt otherwise, right?

They tried that back home—mixing up who we teamed up with, I mean. It helped as grow as fighters.

Yeah, that's not a bad idea. I'd imagine I've learned a lot working with teams other than my own, too.

[Including some people they had to just beat down, but that's a whole other topic.]

I wish there were other teams that could take on some of the stuff we faced, but on most situations it's just the six of us.

... Though uh, I can't really elaborate on that. Some stuff is classified.
