Travel is good for the soul, I hear.

But why?

When I was only twelve I was bestowed by the good grace of my sire an education in a delightful city thousands of miles from home. Dare I have a pleasant outing, you ask? The majesty of the finest library in the world seldom shielded me from the opposite of being in heaven; nursing frostbitten fingers and sleeping alone in the dark.

No, travel is the most dreadful punishment. For the fiercest soul is made to pine for the comforts of home. Where one is free to laugh and stroll amongst friends.

… I miss mine dearly.

Forgive me for occupying your valuable time with my musing but I must ask:

Do any of you pine for your world left behind? Is home something you miss?

I too have traveled a lot, sometimes unwillingly for duty rather than pleasure. Dreadfully sorry about your experiences.

Nothing quite replaces putting down roots and enjoying the luxury of calling a place a home, filling it with your things and delighting in being surrounded by trinkets and mementos.

I do miss London, and my bookshop, and all the wonders of my world. If I had to call a place my home, that would be it.

But home is where I entrust my memories and so my home is Crowley, and has been without my acknowledgement for years now. So while I don’t need to pine for my home this time, I have. I have been without him before. I know that acute loss well, and I understand the desperation to be reunited with that which you long most for.

I hope you find your home again.

I eschew being uprooted from home and hearth so finding myself without my usual distractions has coloured me morose, I fear. Though it is not for me to turn away from a world in need. It is incompatable with someone of my office to neglect duty.

Perhaps I shall find some distraction or another. You know an advisable seller to purchase a book from, surely?

I haven’t been anywhere outside of my hometown but I suppose traveling a lot can have its drawbacks.

Indeed. The cost is often great - and other areas of my life are already demanding a considerable sum.

A dreadful punishment...yes, that is a good way to put it. It is as you say, we leave pieces of our soul behind, when we are forced away from our homeland. Or from those who are dear to us.

It seems your regret meets with universal approval. Though some appear more capable of enduring their yearning than others. I find it painful to witness them bear their hearts upon their sleeves, even though I offer it myself.

Still, it is not for I to offer them criticism. The burden upon thier souls must be great, to share such words. The way you share them with me.

I definitely miss the comforts of being the richest man in town, though. And my brother. If they're right about time being frozen, he isn't missing me, but I'm not so lucky.

I'd like to say I miss home, but I don't. Not that I'd prefer to be here, either. Maybe that means I never really considered where I'm from home.

I'm in the same boat! I miss my home and my friends but this place isn't bad either. There are a few perks that keep me preoccupied, but I wish the music scene was better.

[Though no place has a music scene like Midi City. So, Crow's standards are pretty high.]

I am not an enthusiast for the arts myself, but dare I assume the local scene is lacking? Your opinion hardly imbues me with optimism.

Home is... a tricky subject for me. The world I left was in ruins, in the process of rebuilding. Even as hope found its roots among the wreckage, my comrades and I are not exactly... welcome in it anymore.

I do miss the comrades I left behind, but I have no attachment to the world itself, nor the nomadic lifestyle we have been forced to embrace.

You preach to the choir. I, too, feel a high distaste towards itinerant living. One must enjoy some level of comfort, surely?

I would not know much about travel I am afraid. I elected to be tutored at home and otherwise was only dragged away to convalesce and visit distant relatives. It has never filled me with much excitement or envy even though I know the thing to do for a man my age was being about in London or the traveling to the Continent.

But as for missing home, I suppose I do after a fashion or rather I miss certain people.
Even though I was about to leave that household, that is not the same as being taken from it.

Indeed. There is no pleasant experience in being abducted from one's bed amid the dead of night. It should leave one a frightful mess.

That is not to mention the trauma of being torn away from one's family and friends. It is a shame that is something we have all experienced in being brought to this place.
