Travel is good for the soul, I hear.

But why?

When I was only twelve I was bestowed by the good grace of my sire an education in a delightful city thousands of miles from home. Dare I have a pleasant outing, you ask? The majesty of the finest library in the world seldom shielded me from the opposite of being in heaven; nursing frostbitten fingers and sleeping alone in the dark.

No, travel is the most dreadful punishment. For the fiercest soul is made to pine for the comforts of home. Where one is free to laugh and stroll amongst friends.

… I miss mine dearly.

Forgive me for occupying your valuable time with my musing but I must ask:

Do any of you pine for your world left behind? Is home something you miss?

I'll admit, I miss my father. But those I ache for are not related to me by blood.

I fight in the army for my kingdom, as a band called the Shepherds. And it is they who hold sway over my heart.

Ah. You yearn for the bonds of fraternity. I imagine friendships here are a frightful loss compared to the solidarity of one's comrades.

Quite so. Friendly as some are, you can never truly replace a person.

I do understand, I must admit. Some people are irreplacable.

But I do appreciate you bringing this out into the open. I feel any of us are under pressure to just accept what's happening without question.

It is my pleasure. I am hardly an admirer of the lack of critical thought. It is shameful that a multitude are willing to accept our weak position and disregard our own power.

I must agree! We're thrust into some fairy tale world and merely told, 'oh, sorry about that, oh well, carry on'. It makes the whole ordeal quite untrustworthy.

It makes one turn to drink, frankly.

I'm not tempted towards such a thing, but I understand the urge all the same.

Plenty do, I dare say, and that is an unfortunate state of affairs. Has there ever been word on our predicament from those on high?

None that have been satisfactory to me, at least.
