Travel is good for the soul, I hear.

But why?

When I was only twelve I was bestowed by the good grace of my sire an education in a delightful city thousands of miles from home. Dare I have a pleasant outing, you ask? The majesty of the finest library in the world seldom shielded me from the opposite of being in heaven; nursing frostbitten fingers and sleeping alone in the dark.

No, travel is the most dreadful punishment. For the fiercest soul is made to pine for the comforts of home. Where one is free to laugh and stroll amongst friends.

… I miss mine dearly.

Forgive me for occupying your valuable time with my musing but I must ask:

Do any of you pine for your world left behind? Is home something you miss?

Yes, but for some people there is nothing. No house, no home, no family. What might it be then, I wonder?

Unless you have an answer and are just testing me, but I get the impression your not.

Maybe the easiest answer is: "If you could only pick one place to be". Would you go to a place, would you be with a person? Maybe that's how people without those things answer the question.

I think that is a perfectly sound way to put it. When one is down on his luck is it a simple pleasure to ever make a choice at all. The power to make one's own decisions is woefully underappreciated.

Exactly. There's power in being able to decide for yourself.

I see no sense in simplifying it. But, again, I'm not sentimental, so my perspective is going to be different from someone who values time spent with a friend.

Certainly so, but yours offers valuable insight all the same. Life with one only outlook would be woefully boring, wouldn't you say?
