[It's that cat again.]

Real names does seem to be the done thing at the moment, doesn't it?

[The small feline gives a wide yawn, showing off all of his teeth and his pink tongue as it curls in his mouth.]

Mogget is not my name. [Only a name he has been given, and the only one he has been able to use for some time. He had left his original name behind for many reasons, but...]

Should you wish, you may address me by the name that I gave myself when I first gained consciousness from the chaos of Free Magic.

[His eyes seem to glow a little... but perhaps it's just a trick of the light. His tone hasn't changed at all.]

My true name is Yrael, the Eighth Bright Shiner. But you can just call me Yrael, if you like.

I want to hear about the creation of the worlds of the people here.

[It's that cat again. His bright eyes are sharp on the screen, giving the impression he's really looking at anyone who happens to see his message and respond.] Whether it be myths or known fact. I'm interested to know it.

[Perhaps it's simply part of his way of 'caring' about more things than himself. To say nothing of the typically brusque way that he delivers his query.]

For my own, life capable of independent existence was brought into being by seven of nine beings known as the Bright Shiners - the first Free Magic beings to develop conscious thought. [He pauses a moment, considering.]

As for why, I'm not certain even now. Vanity, perhaps. What other reason is there to create life in such a way?

[The cat on the screen might be familiar by now. He sits primly with both paws neatly side by side and his tail curled around him, the tip lightly flicking up and down.]

I did wonder what I was doing here at all, to begin with. [He says. The statement has the air of someone continuing an earlier conversation, though he hasn't made many outreaches on the network at all.] Summoned to another world to save a hundred others? I had no care for my own world, let alone this one or anyone else's.

[The bell that usually hangs on his collar - for those who are well-acquainted enough with the feline to notice - is now missing, though the green tear-shaped pendant is still present.]

I cared not a bit for Geardagas, either. The sheer audacity of pulling me about the multiverse like a toy is not something I have ever come to appreciate from these places that seem to 'need' my presence. [But then... Mogget looks thoughtful, as much as a cat is able to make such an expression.]

I wonder if I was too harsh in my evaluations. If multitudes of worlds and the people in them may be worth the effort after all. [His ears twitch.] Even the worst of them, if it means also saving the best, no?

[Maybe it was a twitch of his paw that turned it on, or a flick of his tail, or maybe he said something in his sleep to trigger it, but the potentially battle-weary inhabitants of Avalon will be able to bear witness to the absolutely adorable sight of a white, fluffy cat, sound asleep.

The screen is too close to him to really make out where he is, but he's definitely asleep.

At least, for a couple of minutes, until a small noise stirs him and one vivid green eye cracks open to fix on the device beside his head.
]

Hmm.

[Says the cat, and the sound comes out like a purr.]

I suppose that little blinking light means something.

[There is a cat on the screen. A white cat wearing a red collar sporting a small silver bell and a green, tear-drop shaped pendant. He looks at the communication device for several moments with a pair of sharp, vivid green eyes.

Then the cat speaks.
]

Ah, good, it's working.

[The cat's voice sounds... more or less as you might expect a cat to sound. He doesn't have a human voice, but rather the various sounds a feline might make are twisted around into entirely coherent words. He shifts in place, adjusting the position of his small white paws.]

I thought it best to get this out of the way as quickly as possible, having no wish to spend another year explaining that I am not someone's familiar. [His ears flick back momentarily.]

Nor am I a human choosing to look like this, or a simple housecat. Do not treat me as such. [The talking part probably gave that last bit away, but he's met a lot of stupid people. Mogget pauses here, and lets out a quiet sigh.

He ends the communication there, though one might hear a mutter of '--don't know why I bother' just before it shuts off.
