It's funny to me how we have pumpkins running rampant and other sort of spooky stuff when this place has never heard of Halloween. Though sure, pumpkins are a part of autumn anyway.

That being said, advice to anyone who might need it: don't go trick or treating unless you want to get arrested by knights. This isn't America, going to knock people's doors asking for candy and threatening them with a prank isn't going to go well.

I've got a recipe book put together with some seasonal favorites. Bambrack, pumpkin bread, soul cakes and the like. I'll include the ingredients I need on the shopping list for the restaurant.

It's an irish speckled loaf! Raisins and sultanas are the usual bake-ins, but there's quite a lovely tradition associated with it! Basically, in a batch, you bake various symbolic things into the bread, and it's considered a sort of augur for the winter what object you get! Each result has a different meaning.

What kind of different symbols and meanings? Unless that's a chef's secret, or just more interesting to both you and me if I find out by eating it.

A pea, a stick, a piece of cloth, a coin, a ring, and a bean.

They all have different meanings but they basically all have to do with love and money. You can probably guess what some of them mean.

Yeah, some of those meanings are easy to guess. So it's a fortune-telling game?

Exactly! But the bread itself is also just popular to toast up and serve with butter or cream cheese.
