It's funny to me how we have pumpkins running rampant and other sort of spooky stuff when this place has never heard of Halloween. Though sure, pumpkins are a part of autumn anyway.

That being said, advice to anyone who might need it: don't go trick or treating unless you want to get arrested by knights. This isn't America, going to knock people's doors asking for candy and threatening them with a prank isn't going to go well.

I got to admit: I haven’t done trick or treating from what I can remember, and I don’t think that it is very common in England. But we do have Halloween parties in my school: we have floating pumpkins from the ceiling in the Great Hall.

Though I do have an unpleasant memory on Halloween.

What? What did I say?

Seriously? What the hell are weens and why are there halls of them? Why is that something to celebrate?

…Okay but like. Why not just say that? What do weens have to do with anything?

You mean to tell me they've no mumming or guising for Samhain, here?!

[ Look, she got the lowdown from the Throne, she knows the historical connections between the holiday of her era and Halloween, but she's not gonna take this laying down! ]

[ Don't mind a giggle from her. It's well meaning! ]

Ah, it's from my home language, actually! [ Well. Sort of. Don't get into the semantics of which Scots language they actually spoke in Orkney. ]

"E'en" or just "een" comes from our word for "evening", Hallow's Eve is Christian holiday, though it's sort of gotten rolled in with an older holiday we still celebrated in my time, called Samhain!

Good sir, it seems you must be informed that Samhain, or All Souls day, very much does exist here.

Though, I know not of the candy part.. and the presence of pumpkins and other goods gives one pause for thought-- you should do well to observe it.

A true shame, I'd looked forward to partaking in the holiday...

[ Thank you, Throne of Heroes, for all the information about the holiday that had evolved from her era. Dressing up in costumes and getting candy sounded fun... a shame, truly. Still... ]

But surely Samhain is still present here?

[ oh, it's this archer again. saber leans her chin on her knuckles, sitting in a hotel room. that she has definitely refused to share. ]

Oh? That's a disappointment. Halloween had sounded quite charming, from what I learned from the Throne of Heroes... I'd hoped to put on a lavish celebration in SE.RA.PH when the time was right!

[ and now she won't even be able to experience it here??? tragic. ]

What you call "trick or treating" IS part of Samhain, Archer! [ She's huffing! You made her huff! ]

"Guising" is what we called it in my time.

weens is like
lol
like a silly word for dick
where i'm from
possibly where other people are from

"halloween" is a holiday
don't ask me why they call it that it probably means something in like
a language i don't speak
its one of those "the veil is thin now so OooOoOoOooOOOoooOOo SPOOPY SCARY GHOSTS AND CATS AND SKELETONS" holidays now but it probably had a meaning once
now its just an excuse to wear costumes and get free candy

Okay but you have to admit, now that everyone is saying ‘weens’ over and over it sounds funny.

Though there are differences, it's fascinating how different worlds can have such similar harvest festivals, isn't it.

Oh! I get it. It’s like when you say a word quickly, it sounds like a bunch of letters are missing.

Thanks for explaining to me! I hope I didn’t offend!
