Which is fine, it does what it needs to, which is to show a young woman seated at what is - given the background - is probably a desk in one of the hotel rooms used to house offworlders.]

There's something I've been wondering about.

Has anyone run into someone you're sure is from your world, but who you don't have any personal connection to? Either directly or through someone else?

Actually, yeah. I have. I wonder if it's uncommon or if it's more that it's harder to tell in some cases than others.

It might be harder to tell if people are from very different times, or if the things that make their world distinctive are subtler.

Do you have people you know from your world, too? Or is it only strangers?

Just strangers. Though I get the feeling I only just missed meeting one of them. . . . The others, as far as I can tell, come from a different timeline. But it's definitely the same Earth. Maybe that sounds crazy, but I don't have much doubt.

I'm guessing you know some people here personally from home, right?

No crazier than any of us being here in the first place.

...Wait, Earth? Are you from the Earth Kingdom? Or is that what your world is called?

Sort of? More that there are people from my world who have the same powers as me but I just met them. So I can't say there is a real personal connection just yet.

[Which does make him a little sad but he hopes to remedy that somehow.]

What sort of powers do you have? Or did you have?

Back home? We had something called a Persona. Think of it like a familiar except that it's more a representation of yourself rather than a random magical creature.

[And one that doesn't involve questionable means of summoning it!]

You don't think your familiar represents you?

[Hers is pretty fitting, though she's less likely to try and chase a spot of light on the wall.]

Yes, though ours is a rather... peculiar situation. I've run into it a number of times already.

I take it this has happened to you? I'd consider it a blessing, unless your world is just that bad or something.

And no - everyone from my world is someone I've met personally, before any of this happened. At least so far. That's why I wanted to ask, to see if we were an outlier.

Before... Yes, it has happened before, but I've never seen it happen to anyone else except a small handful of those from our world. It's when you remember someone, but they don't remember you -- and not due to timeline discrepancies so much as the fact that they remember "you" as someone else entirely.

Most people don't seem to have to deal with that, though. It gets rather confusing and awkward after the first six or seven times of explaining who you are and proving you're not lying about it.

A red-skinned young woman with horns can be seen leaning back in her chair, balancing on the back two legs as she holds the phone out away from her.]

That's a good question.

How do you tell if someone is from your world in the first place, if you don't have a personal connection to them?

Similarities in history, landscape, even magic, if it exists in your world.

[She honestly can't tell. For all she knows, those sigils could be part of some engineer's equation.]

It might not be possible to be entirely sure, but you could get pretty close - at least with some worlds.

I was about to say... If you have managed to memorize all of the history and culture that your world has to offer, that sounds pretty impressive.

There's no people or places or magic that you're unfamiliar with?

We only have one type of magic. It's a little bit like the Elemental magic here, but most of our b- uh, mages can only use one element.

I haven't visited all four nations, but I'm familiar with them.

I have met both those who are from times ancient to my own, and those who are from a time where my own existence is but ancient history to them.

So you were able to recognize each other from old stories?

Ivalice is land with rich history... and a bright future, as well, even if the name "Ivalice" itself has long passed into the sands of time.

This strange land has granted me a blessing, to be able to reach across those eons and speak to, to know, those who are so divided from me by those sands.

I...guess that makes sense. Coming from the same world doesn't mean you have to be friends. I think I'd be too curious to ignore a stranger from my world completely, though.

It sure doesn't. Being from the same world isn't a free pass to being nosy.

[ Well, in Emerald's case, that's her deal. Sort of. She's not convinced the people from her world won't try to shoot her, though. ]

That shouldn't be so strange though, should it miss? Worlds are very big after all. I certainly have never met Queen Victoria even if she is my queen.

It shouldn't be. If you just look at numbers, most of us should be strangers.

Well, I haven't anyone from home, everyone is a stranger. But I do think I understand. You have people from your home who you know and people from your home who you don't know, is that what you mean?
