[There is a cat on the screen. A white cat wearing a red collar sporting a small silver bell and a green, tear-drop shaped pendant. He looks at the communication device for several moments with a pair of sharp, vivid green eyes.

Then the cat speaks.]

Ah, good, it's working.

[The cat's voice sounds... more or less as you might expect a cat to sound. He doesn't have a human voice, but rather the various sounds a feline might make are twisted around into entirely coherent words. He shifts in place, adjusting the position of his small white paws.]

I thought it best to get this out of the way as quickly as possible, having no wish to spend another year explaining that I am not someone's familiar. [His ears flick back momentarily.]

Nor am I a human choosing to look like this, or a simple housecat. Do not treat me as such. [The talking part probably gave that last bit away, but he's met a lot of stupid people. Mogget pauses here, and lets out a quiet sigh.

He ends the communication there, though one might hear a mutter of '--don't know why I bother' just before it shuts off.]

Animal magic, and Light magic. I'm sure I'll make use of both, though I don't appreciate the level of restriction.

That’s quite relatable if you ask me: I did struggle for a bit in the first weeks I was here trying to use the wand magic from my world, and I had given up on trying to make it work after that.

And I accidentally burn stuff with my fire magic for around three months before a friend helped me out with it.

You were trying to use your home world's magic for weeks?

[Mogget does not sound impressed with that.]

Yeah. I learned it the hard way that I can’t use my world’s magic in Avalon; guess that I was silly enough to think that I could use wand magic in here.

More of having some bad luck and not knowing any the wiser.

Bad luck? I don't suppose it occurred to you to ask about it.

Hardly at all. I guess that it is safe to say that really crazy things happen to me back in my world and that trend did follow after me in here as well.

That's really no excuse for that level of incompetence.

[But, sigh.]

I assume there are ways to improve ones knowledge of the native magic, rather than stumbling about in the dark.

Yes, there are many ways to get better at it and practising it is just one of them. You can read up on them in the books and getting tips from other magic users in here.

I am pretty sure that there are plenty of people who can help you out.
