[Though her last post had been entirely anonymous, she had taken on the advice of some of the people who had responded to her. Being lonely is entirely different to being alone, and Poison hasn't been adapting well to having a very limited number of people to turn to if she just wants a friend.

But still, she's never been that good at communicating with people.

She starts the video seated in her room at the inn with a plain wall behind her. Her hair is tucked behind her ears, though she quickly shakes it free upon realising she doesn't much like how that looks.]

Good afternoon.

[Ugh...]

I'm looking for the other alchemists here. I've had that power since I arrived, and I'd like to propose a... [Hmm.] A study group, I suppose. To share ideas, and to help each other if one of us needs it. It isn't the easiest of magics to master, and I think we could find benefits in working as a team sometimes.

[She's sure at least one person is going to scoff at this. Poison doesn't care.]

There's space in Camelot's library, but it doesn't have to be there. I'll be going there later today though, if anyone wants to join me.

[ Guess who's here, but on video! You guessed it. ]

This is a great idea. I'm sure more people will like it, too.

I have Alchemy and it's really not very easy to get good at! I'd like to see what other people have figured out. I mean I've only been here a month.

[ He grins. ]

Anything that can make this a little easier for all of us.

I've made a lot of things explode.

[The admittance comes with a tiny but wry smile. A good number of her experiments have ended in small explosions and broken bottles - which, given what she's been trying to achieve, isn't that much of a surprise.]

I think I'm missing something, and maybe another pair of eyes would... help.

I've not been here very long, so I've taken it slow. I can see why blowing things up would happen, though.

[ Once he tries something grander, he can see this...becoming an issue. ]

I think having people to work with is great. When I was at home, I liked to show my fellow skaters tricks and tips to landing their jumps. Knowing I helped someone be successful is really neat.

I've been trying to achieve something specific... and the compounds I'm working with can be volatile.

[Sometimes, anyway. Sometimes they explode. Sometimes they just make pretty colours. She has an aim in mind, but it's trial and error.]

[ He's not trying to really do anything other than grasp the basics right now. ]

[She hasn't talked much about what she's been trying to do with... well, anyone, really.]

I'm trying to make defensive flasks for people who have more passive magical skills. Or anyone, I guess, but they were my first thought.

Oh, that's really helpful for people. I can see a lot of people really getting use out of it.

Nice to meet you, Poison!

I'm not sure how possible it is. [Something here is working against her trying to replicate existing magic, so she's having to figure out ways to work around it.]

But I think I'm learning a lot by... getting a lot of things wrong.

[Poison does not, ordinarily, like to get things wrong or to admit she has, but in this case it's actually been extraordinarily useful.]

That makes sense, I think. It's why it's a great idea to get more people in on it to share tips. Maybe someone around here will have that last thing you need to get it right.

[ It won't be him, since his knowledge is, well, limited. ]

I don't think there are that many alchemists. At least, not compared to other magic types.

[While Poison might not necessarily object to being able to create fire, it's probably not something anyone should really trust her with.]

What do you focus on?

I've only been here about a month, so I'm still figuring out the basics. I'm working making potions that help boost stamina and energy. Painkillers, things like that. It's -- a lot of learning how things go.

Mm. That's why I think something like this might help. I might have found something you'd find useful that I can't use in what I'm trying to do.

[Just as an example.]

Exactly! When training with others, it's best to share tips and tricks. After all, it's better when everyone's at their best.

[She lets out a small hum of agreement, pauses, then asks curiously-]

If there were somewhere you could go to meet other Alchemists, would you go there?

Of course! It'd be pretty silly of me to not use any resources offered, right?

Like -- there's bound to be people better than me there? Well, definitely will be - haha!

Is that the sort of thing you're thinking?

Mm, that's the sort of thing.

[Now she has the idea, she might even set up to run it on her own if Horus decides he isn't interested. Getting a business licence from the traders would surely be the first step.

She almost smiles to think of it. JJ might see it dancing around her eyes.]

It would keep me busy.

And busy is good. If you do it, definitely let me know! Even just send me a quick message. I'll be there the first day!

[She actually lets out a little chuckle at that. JJ's enthusiasm sure is infectious...]

[ Horus is doing just fine responding with videos while not signed in, so he's going to keep doing it until someone corrects him. He did figure out how to keep the camera on his face at least, so there are no awkward camera angles here! ]

I have seen many posts of alchemists looking for people to study with. Perhaps a study group may not be enough for those of our craft.

[She notices that he's showing his face while being anonymous, but figures it's because he doesn't want people sending him random messages. Good idea. She kind of wishes she'd thought of it.]

I hadn't noticed.

[Poison, being from a world with very little technology, has never really got much into the habit of using communicators like this.]

You had a better idea?

[ Horus is from Ancient Egypt, but he's decidedly fascinated. He definitely needs someone to teach him to more effectively use it, but he can look at stuff and he can respond in video. ]

Craftsmen often form guilds in my kingdom. It's a good way of obtaining work and sharing ideas among others.

Guilds?

[In Gull, where Poison is from, the population wasn't large enough for anything like guilds... but she had read about them in books and Fleet had told her stories from his travels.

Inwardly, she balks at the idea of being part of anything so organised. But maybe it's not a bad idea.]

We'd need somewhere to meet.

Then we shall find somewhere. Tell me your name, first. We'll put it in your name.

[ He can't use his because... he's using a fake name right now. ]

Oh--

[Uh. Okay.

Normally she'd immediately shy away from something like this, but the abrupt nature of the request means she doesn't get the chance to give it a second thought.]

Poison. My name is Poison.

We shouldn't have it in your name, hm..

[ Poison Guild has a very different meaning than they're going for.]

We cannot use mine either, but how about one of my world's other gods? Horus might be a good choice. His symbols sometimes are thought to have protective qualities.

[She does actually chuckle when he says that. Yeah... naming anything after her is probably not the best idea.

His suggestion seems fine to her. Poison's own world doesn't have gods, only the phaeries, and they're as real as anything else.]

Horus is fine, then. Do we need a business licence for something like that?

Call me Anubis for now, Poison. It may not seem as alarming a name, but I'm afraid there are those who will associate it with the wrong sort of thing for alchemy.

[ he doesn't actually think so, but his real name is Horus, and when it becomes known that he's Horus, he wants his guild in his own name.. ]

We shall find out together. The Alchemical Guild of Horus has kind of a ring to it, doesn't it?

It's... memorable.

[Easy to remember. Easy enough, anyway. Poison doesn't really care much what it's called (though she will raise her eyebrows at his audacity at such time as she discovers what his real name is.]

I don't really mind either way.

[Shrug. It's barely even her idea.]

And I've never heard either name before. Are they supposed to be important?

Horus is the god of the sky. He was hidden away from birth so that he could train and become strong to kill the King of Egypt, Set, who killed his father Osiris for the throne. Anubis is his best friend and half-brother, a god in charge of guiding lost souls to the afterlife and will do anything for [ there's a brief hitch because 'me' almost slipped out ] him. We grew up in an oasis together.

That sounds...

[Weird. She manages to stop herself from voicing it, but the skeptical look on her face probably says it all. It isn't that she doesn't believe him, but that's a lot of information all at once.]

We don't have gods where I'm from. [Poison thinks for a moment. Stories like this always intrigue her.]

Why would a god need to train to kill a king?

Set is a war god of the desert, of disorder and violence, of thunderstorms and the eclipse. The humans do not rule themselves.

[ Not until after Horus, anyway. There is a reason he becomes the god of kings, but he has not yet done that. ]

Horus would be good for the guild, though. He's known as a protector, one intended to save people. Is that not what we are here in Avalon to do?

I suppose.

[She sighs. Most people seem far more enthusiastic about their purpose here than she is. Though, she supposes they are just the vocal ones.]

I don't have much reason to care about Avalon. But sitting and doing nothing won't help me either, so this is fine. It's more than I expected to be doing.

It's all worlds, of course, but I don't know the name of yours to say. I fight for Egypt, myself.

[ Horus has other motives. Namely, he's having fun. The worlds being destroyed and it being lain on their shoulders isn't great, but he's used to huge destinies being laid on his shoulders. He wants to have fun before he has to take those destinies upon himself. Avalon is like a party before the end of the world, both metaphorically and literally. ]

Keeping busy makes the days go faster.

[She huffs out a laugh in spite of herself. Even with her almost complete rejection of any kind of life here, she'd still been keeping herself busy. It just wasn't in her to give up, to sit and give up.

Doing that once had been enough to realise it solved nothing.]

You're right. I think this could be good, Anubis, if you're willing to do it with me.

Let us meet in person to hash out the details, then. I can be found in the dwelling next to Set's. We are on the side of the offered dwellings where the sun sets.

[ AS IF THIS IS SOME KIND OF ADDRESS... ]

[She nods.]

All right.

[Look she grew up in a marsh, she knows how to navigate like this.]

Anything outside I can look for so I know which one is yours?

My familiar is out hunting. You should see a falcon circling the nearby skies.

[That's as much as she needs. She tracks her way across to where he said the house was, and sure enough, there's the falcon. For a moment she squints up at it, shielding her eyes against the sunlight, then she heads for the door and lifts her hand up to knock.

The sound startles her. Something so simple as a knock.

So she's really doing this, she supposes.]

I would love to join a study group! I had been helping a classmate of mine from home with his alchemy since I first arrived, as it's in fact quite similar to the ability I was born with. It's been... an adjustment, learning to use the tools and symbols of alchemy, but I think I'm probably a step ahead of the curve in terms of understanding the fundamental principles of molecular structure that lie at the core of alchemical transmutation.

[Well that's a whole lot of words and a couple of them she... doesn't entirely understand. Context is key, though, and she thinks she gets the idea.

Poison, unfortunately, has always disliked showing when she doesn't know things.]

If there's something you can teach me, I'll listen. I've been... experimenting, mostly.

[Klaudia's expression is... wary, but interested when she responds. She seems to be in one of the inn rooms, leaning back and balancing her chair on two legs.]

I don't know if the library is the best place to be studying alchemy properly. Sounds too... [She waves her hand vaguely in the air.] Flammable.

What sort of ideas are you planning on sharing? Or--for that matter, what are you working on?

[Something about Klaudia causes an immediate hesitation on Poison's end. Despite the years of experience she has outside of her own home she still has some deeply ingrained, instinctive responses to people who are 'not-human'.

But she manages to brush it off quickly, or at least give the appearance that she has.]

For studying, it's fine. I wouldn't say we ought to do practical work there. [That... seems like a bad idea.]

I've been working on... potions with defensive properties. Things that make noise, light, or smoke. Something that can be used quickly without any need for magical expertise.

[It's not an uncommon reaction--and one reason why she doesn't usually approach new people on video. Who wants to be reminded of how inhuman they look all the time? But it passes quickly and the other girl doesn't comment, so at most, Klaudia just looks a little tired.]

I didn't think of using potions like that. I can use light magic to make a bright flash, so I don't need alchemy for that one. But noise or smoke... I'd be interested in figuring out those, as well.

[She smirks a little in good humor.] I've made enough smoke and explosions by accident~ Making them on purpose should be easy, right?

[Though Poison's more than used to seeing people who don't look entirely human, there's always going to be a slight internal twitch about it. For the first sixteen years of her life, 'not-human' meant 'phaerie', and that was almost always bad.

But at least she can keep herself from making a big deal of it now.

She does smirk slightly in turn, appreciating the humour.]

I've done the same thing. Usually when I don't mean to, so I can't always make it happen again.
