Hi, it's me again, and I know that asking everyone questions at once can kind of be a bad idea sometimes or most of the times, but...
I went to the store to prepare for this whole feast thing, and I was offered something free for... For pride? It made rainbows follow me, and I don't see what that has to do with being proud, so there's definitely something here that I'm missing. When I asked the shopkeep they went on about flags and representation, but I didn't really get it.
So... Is there anyone who wants to explain that to me, and am I the only one confused by this?

Liking someone the same gender as you.

Doesn't that mean happy or festive or something?
no subject
It used to mean that, but it now means something else.

dunno about other places
but where i'm from
people historically are hmmmm
how do u say
very deeply uncool about anyone who's different
but particularly about gender and sexuality
there's a lot of really dumb people who care way too much about telling people what to do
pride is like... a time to be all
"fuck what y'all think we're here and we're proud of it"
and the flags all represent different things
but the rainbow is inclusive for all of them ?
that's my understanding anyway like i... dunno the history or whatever
but it's pretty cool

no subject
they care way too much about what's in everyone's pants
it SHOULDN'T matter
but to them it does
i used to watch movies and stuff
and in all of those it's like
GOTTA GET THE GIRL THE THING YOU DO AS A MAN IS GET THAT GIRL
but like man i don't care about getting the girl
why can't we just be friends with the girl ???
someone had to tell me that like it was ok to feel that way because if everything you see acts like that's the one right way
or if there's only one right way you're "supposed" to dress or whatever
how are you supposed to know you're allowed to be another way ????
anyway if that's not how it is where you're from
you're lucky

i bet it would be a lot of fun
no subject
What kind of celebrations did it entail where you come from? Was it the same as this place, with... Rainbows and flags?
no subject
like
beyond what i listed
that's what it is! we have rainbows
and flags
and i've never been to one but
sometimes there's confetti and glitter and it's fun!

Being different was okay, if you kept it to yourself. Letting others know was what was dangerous. It always starts with unkind comments, and then suspicion and disrespect leads to ostracization. It's easy to hurt people you don't think of as people anymore.
He doesn't know this guy but he's already worried about him! ]
We're all from really different places and what's normal to one person might be weird to you or might not even exist where you're from. It's okay!
I'm sure the shopkeeper meant well! Anyway, free stuff is always nice right?
no subject
[Oh, to exist outside of society... It hasn't done a lot of good for Kaede.]
It's not so bad, though I'm not sure what I'll do with it once this Pride is over. Or if it'll even be usable once it is.

Instead, I asked the merchant why they only give away meaningless items for free if they are having what they refer to as a "special". Should they not offer whatever it is one comes to purchase for free instead if it is meant to truly have meaning and one can individually determine whether or not to require the need for currency within their own establishment?
Therefore, I concluded it must be another empty, trivial gesture.
no subject
I don't know if that's necessarily equal? The special thing is free because it's special, but the goods you buy are just normal?
I think?

I suppose this means it won't be producing the Union Flag.
