So people have been talking about all our choices regarding how to deal with the fae. I think no matter what we decide we do also need to consider something else. We need to consider how disorganized we are if shit happens and whatever we choose fails.

Whether we like it or not, this place is our home for now. I think no matter what we do next, we need to get more organized about protecting this place if shit happens. For all we know even choosing a peaceful option could lead to the fae invading later on if we do something to piss them off. We can all hope otherwise, but I've always felt it better to be strong enough to deal with whatever happens.

Okay, so I suck at this whole speaking on the network thing, but just wanted to know if there would be interest in forming a defense focused militia and what sort of skills and experience we have to work with. That and if there is someone better than me at leading and training people. I'm a good fighter, but I know that no one besides me could learn to fight the way I did. I'm also better suited for figuring out the best way to stab the enemy.

Definitely have a few who have experience. Enough to have a few alternates in case someone is sent home or turns out to be a shitty choice.

I suppose that brings some relief, but we'll know in due time everyone's actual worth.

However don't misunderstand. I won't be throwing my hat into the ring. Regardless of my own personal experience, I only recently arrived into this world and still learning about it. Should there be more capable hands then I will follow—I just want to be sure I can trust the ones giving orders and that the safety of those involved are ensured.

In the meantime, while my specialty is in firearms, the limitations of this world make them less reliable. However I am skilled in close combat with knives and daggers, and can formulate strategies and plans for out in the field.

I think we're all still learning things. I just hope the majority here see how stupid of an idea invasion is. I might like a good fight and enjoy some danger, but that's just stupid and reckless.

Can you tell me a bit more about firearms? Heard some stuff about them, but we haven't gotten any in Balduq yet. Definitely curious and wondering why it would be limited here.

Never used one, but seen them here and there in books about naval battles. They make use of giant balls filled with gunpowder and shoot those like an arrow, but it instead explodes like when they use explosives in the mines, right?

It depends on the kind of ammunition—the balls. Some can explode on impact, but some are designed as solid lead so that their purpose is to cause more physical damage to the structural integrity of a ship.

But you have the basic idea. Imagine a cannon but reduced in size capable of being held by a person. Although some older models like the musket also use solid lead ball rounds, more modern guns will have bullets designed to either pierce for a more damaging targeted hit, or shatter for a wider area. Of course both can be lethal.

When using a firearm, the explosive is used for firing the bullet than the actual hit, but it is possible to have explosive bullets.

I could see how that could be useful. But I'm guessing like a bow and arrows, you're limited to the amount you have on hand and since they explode you can't just go and retrieve them later? [The pain of projectile weapons, which is why he doesn't use thrown knives as often as his swords even if he's quite adept at their use.]

Correct. In theory the solid ammunition could be reused, but it would be a waste of time trying to find it. However their production is simple so you could carry a decent amount. Not only that, the point is to not waste your bullets and making every shot count.

As for elemental magic...it's not impossible. [He could actually give a concrete example with his own special weapon, buuuuuuut he'd rather divulge that unless necessary and he can use something else, anyway.] The traders here are capable of modifying weapons to have a "magical reload" that uses ones own magic to fire instead. Your supply will be as much as you can generate and limited to what magic you use.

It's convenient, but I can see situations where a physical bullet would be preferred over magic.

True, one wouldn't want to waste arrows either, but they do have some potential to be reused. Definitely will be good to have someone around who knows such weapons since there could be a use in learning about them if the matter of ammunition can be handled.

There are likely others, but should something be developed then I could provide some assistance in training.

It's curious firearms don't exist in this world... It's similar to mine where magic and technology coexist, and both magic and weapons like guns have their place, neither completely overpowering the other and have their own uses.
