( so, while everyone else is falling over themselves trying to please fae, Kate has a more important question; )
people from places with magic. powers. whatever you wanna call it.
this place offer the same variety of abilities as your home?
( talking to Riou has had her thinking about this. about the fact that for all the money that's been poured into research and development back home, there hasn't even been the faintest whisper of the kinds of things something like Death Magic can manage. )

just offensive powers, then?
( that might make sense in a way. if power is just... power. strength and violence. that makes sense, even if she doesn't agree with it as a concept. )

Personas can do some elemental shit, but on a narrower range than 'elemental magic' sounds like it covers here. And pretty much everyone in the group I was part of had some kind of healing spell. Light and Dark were elemental types, but just one-shot-kill things that barely ever fucking worked. Dunno how the shit navigators can do would map, if it does. Nothing else really has any overlap.
no subject
so anyone can heal, huh?
( she doesn't need to know this. of course she doesn't. when is she ever going to have to know anything about a Persona? but it's... kind of fascinating, really. )
are personas common?

( more flexible is certainly what she'd call her own transition to this magic system, as well. )
this place has powers home doesn't. made me curious.

Yes and no, really.
This world has all kindsa magic. It's a wizard world, innit.
The magic I can use here is similar to mine, with the light barriers and the dreams and whatnot, but it's not the same either.

One could argue that the powers back home were more specialized, and reserved for only a few, with certain people having truly unique powers.
There is lot more variety here, true, but in the end so many others having them removes what made the other unique.
no subject
( her power had always been pretty unique. there were a greater contingent of sensors in the military, but she never got to know someone else who could do the same things. might have helped in getting her job after that, but maybe finding someone who could talk her through this shit would have made it easier. )
you can do more with multiple people who use the same power. share ideas with each other. one person with magic won't do shit against an army here.
( or back home, but given the number of worlds and shit she's hearing here, it might be prudent to quantify that comment. )

Back home, most magic is divided into two types: faith and reason. I'm by far more proficient in reason magic--faith is a bit harder to conjure. That's usually the way of it, as well; most people are stronger in one or the other, if they have any aptitude for magic at all.
Faith magic is where you'll find your healing spells, but also spells like Seraphim and Abraxas, which are useful against monsters and demonic beasts. There's a spell to silence other mages, and a warp spell, which are also incredibly useful in combat. Reason magic is much more elemental, with fire and thunder spells and the like. Meteor is my personal favorite.
no subject
would you say the spells in your world were more powerful than the magic here?
( because the word Meteor is conjuring up particular mental images. )

There's quite a variety where I come from, for those who are capable of mastering it, but not like here.
I've never encountered blood magic before finding myself saddled with it, for instance.
