These devices aren't secure. There are ways, with magic and technology, to...trick the devices into saying things their owner did not want, into sharing information their owner wants kept private, et cetera.

If my understanding is right, he... hasn't been around for a long time. But I'm sure he has court advisers who would stop him making ill-advised decisions where technology is concerned.

Suffice to say, in some ways, he's as out of his depth here as we are, so that's my reasoning for thinking he depends on his court a great deal.
