Those of you with familiars, I have a question - how do you name them? Did it give you any trouble?
What happens if they don't like it?
It doesn't feel like naming a pet, or some future family member. Waiting for inspiration to strike hasn't worked yet.
And now I'm starting to feel like I have to give this phone a name, too.

None of this is on his mind just yet, because he's rammed straight back into his actual mental block.]
I don't want to use the first name that comes to mind. It's basically his species.
He deserves something with less baggage.

Less bagagge, huh.
You can always settle in for a nickname first and see if it sticks.
Something like...Tenten?
[ Tenten as in tentacletentacle monster. At least he didn't offer Tent as reference to less baggage?? ]

What kind of nickname is that...
Does it mean anything?
[He doesn't get it.]

Tenten.
It won't be too obvious that it comes from his appearance...I think.
[ Won't it really... ]

It'll just be me talking to him, and *I'll* know. I don't think that's going to work.
[Asking about it kind of screwed that one up, huh. Story of his life.]
Thanks anyway, it was a good suggestion.
Do you think trying to make him sound cute would work better than something meaningful?
[Because he does understand the logic there, and he doesn't want to sound stubborn... Geez, what's a good way to put this that doesn't implicate him in anything?]
The kind of monster that he is - I've met a lot of them before. There's a chance he used to be a person.
So I don't want it to be too demeaning.

Oh.
If that's the case...
Maybe you should give him some more time?
There's a chance he'll reveal something about himself.
And...sorry about previous suggestions.

What for? I just asked for suggestions, and you narrowed them down. That helps a lot.
Honestly, there's an equal chance that he doesn't remember who he was. I don't think giving him more time is going to change that - or else it would be too convenient.
[His other friend didn't remember everything at first, either... no, never mind, he deletes that little addition before sending. Too much information.]
I just want something to call him by. It feels weird to still not have anything.

I should have known that the familiars might take shape of the creatures from our worlds. Some of my friends have familiars like that.
[ Sagi, don't delete your chance for character development, oh my god. ]
Giving him a nickname would be an easy way out, but I'm not sure if you want to do that.

Then again, there's no reason we can't use a nickname for now, and switch to his real name if we ever find out what it is. I have another friend who was like that about his name.
I'll think about it some more.
[Which is to say, he'll be thinking about "Smoochie".]
