I am...Nigihayami Kohakunushi, but you may call me Kohaku or Haku. ( The voice belongs to a boy who looks like he is no older than twelve. His expression is impassive, the grey-green of his eyes as difficult to read as murky water.

Behind him, there is a dragon with a long skinny body, short legs and tufts of hair on his head, neck and tail. He gives a mighty yawn, showing pointed teeth. )

I am new to Camelot, though I believe I have heard of it. In my world it was thought to only be a legend, but that could be a consequence of distance and not the truth.

I hope to make friends and regain - ( He stops himself, looking around warily. If another witch is causing this, he doesn't want to take chances and speak out of turn. ) Never mind.

This is my familiar. ( Turning, at last, to the awaiting dragon, he lays a hand on the spirit's head. ) Should you see him, do not fear him.

Tryin's a good start. People here don't seem to be bothered about dragons, at least.

[Robyn did have friends back home, though after she and her father moved she had a harder time making more since the children in town weren't exactly fond of anyone English. At least she'd been able to meet Mebh, for all that would bring.]

And you already have your familiar. Does he have a name yet?

I am grateful for that. I didn't know and so I wished to avoid problems before they occurred.

( Destiny has a funny way of tossing them about, doesn't it? Kohaku was just a peaceful - though swift - river and then, before he knew what had happened, he was lost and in the clutches of a witch. )

I was considering Ao Guang.

That's a nice name. What does it mean?

[Another foreign-sounding name, but it does sound nice.]

Dragon King of the East Sea. ( Which pleases his familiar into wiggling like a happy serpent. )

Well, he seems to like that just fine. It is a nice name.

...do dragons really have kings? [It's never something she's thought about.]

( He laughs softly and lays a hand on his familiar's head. )

Maybe? I've never met dragon royalty, but I haven't traveled much.

Well, now that you're here, we could always find out. I wonder if the library has books about them...

[She's still not over the fact that so many books are available here for anyone to read.]

I'd like to look. ( There are so many books! ) If you start at one end, I can start at the other?

I suppose we could do that. It would take a pretty long time, though.

I still can't believe we have so many books in one place. Back home, we'd buy books if we could afford them, but we still didn't have very many.
