[Someone has finally shown Toph how to turn on the accessibility settings on her phone, and then walked her through what it is actually good for. Also, she's bored enough to use it.]

What do people actually do around here? Yeah, we're saving the world, but where I come from, that means going out and fighting or making nice with people or something.

I can only spend so long trying to learn the stupid magic before my brain starts coming out of my ears.

I run my school, and try to get metalbending through the thick heads of my students. But since this stupid world decided that I needed new magic and not my earthbending, I can't do that, can I?

Elemental magic. Which is kind of like bending, except just different enough that I can't just do it.

My 'hobbies' all go with my bending skills. Which aren't here.

...You mean you can bend spoons with your mind? Telekinesis?

If they're metal spoons? Also not my mind. It's got to do with chi flow, but you don't need to know that to do it.

Sounds like it's time for both of us to find new hobbies, huh, Toph... My body will only let me train so much. And right now — that's not very much.

[Toph doesn't really get the appeal of many of them, but if there was ever a firebender who was good at sitting in one place and enjoying the moment, it was Iroh.]

Yes, actually. On that other planet, I made model warships.

[ Because of course he fucking did. Dork. Weird, dark, violent dork. War is what he knows. He knows ships quite well. He had endless free time. What's he supposed to do, think...? It's Zuko's mind, that sounds torturous. Mind-numbing tedium was surprisingly captivating. Perhaps it was his uncle's influence that made the activity rather meditative; Zuko sometimes could appreciate sitting in one place, thoughtless, and enjoyed busying his hands. Iroh certainly appreciated his work when he'd seen the completed projects in Zuko's bedroom, proud of his nephew for doing something... normal... and mildly creative! Zuko's never had the chance to talk about his hobby, though, so he's actually a bit glad to, even if he's pretty sure Toph won't get it, because, well... Not a hobby for her. ]

They sold these boxes of little wooden pieces you had to glue together, tons of them — some were very complicated — to construct a small ship and paint it to look real. I made one look like my cruiser — the, uh... ship I used to live on... when I was searching for the Avatar.

[ You know. Awkward. He tries to smooth over it a bit, still always feeling a bit guilty about, y'know, viciously attacking them for ages, but moving on swiftly...! ]

I made other things too, though, um, like— a dirigible... A-And some weird alien ships from my friend's world, technology we don't have, from this specific war they called "World War II" and they used fascinating weaponry! I did a lot of research about that war — so that became a hobby, too, I guess. It was horrifying.

[ He says it as if "horrifying" was a point of allure, justifying his interest in this morbid "hobby"... Maybe it made him feel homesick. Basically, war is his hobby. Zuko is such a fun guy. ]

Seriously, model warships...

[Somehow this is the least surprising thing she's learned all day. Reassuring that Zuko is also bad at hobbies that are not related to his crummy upbringing, though.]

Well, honestly, I just got here, but there’s only so much I can do. I can’t train my Pokémon because only one came with me and he doesn’t have any of his skills...

People here have really weird animals. No one recognizes my familiar either, and she's a perfectly normal badgermole.

You don't want to learn magic?

I want to have the powers I had back home. Learning magic is a compromise I gotta put up with because I don't have those, but even I can't do that all the time.

Yeah. Which sucks, because I can do a lot more with earthbending than earth magic.

I spent every waking moment fighting or moving to the next fight. Not so much opportunity for that here.

Sounds like when we were trying to stop Fire Lord Ozai. 'Cept when Aang would get ideas like 'hey, I know we're supposed to be hiding, but I want to keep going to school because I accidentally grabbed a school uniform off a clothesline'.

[Toph totally didn't derail the mission ever. Her diversions were always useful and never landed her and Katara in jail for a string of con artistry.].
