[It's pretty early in the morning when Sherry sends out her message. She was still trying to really 'get' the network, but it was starting to make sense.]

[Also no one should make fun of her awesome 1998 style username.]

Hi. Good morning. I'm Sherry Birkin. I only arrived here a few days ago so I don't really know anyone yet...

Which I guess makes this a strange question but I-

[There's a pause because of a very audible yawn.]

Oh! Sorry about that. Okay. Does anyone have advice on what to do about getting rid of nightmares? I've never really had them before but they're...pretty bad right now.

If not it's okay. I'm sure I can get used to them.

[There's another yawn that cuts off midway as she disconnects.]

You have a familiar, yeah? See if they'd be kind enough to stay with you at night. That's kinda what I did for myself, back home... not really a familiar, but somethin' like it.
Just havin' them nearby as you fall asleep might help.

[Marnie does feel a little bad that this is the best advice she's got... but her nightmares basically vanished when she got her first Pokémon, so really, what else could she suggest?]

Really? I guess that shouldn't surprise me, with how different everyone's seem to be...

I don't know what it's called, but he's a big...frog...monster.

[Sherry turns on her camera and twists the phone around to where this guy is sleeping in the corner.]

- Oh!

[There's some shuffling on Marnie's end, the girl having definitely been a little startled by the looks of that, uh...
Guy.

But she's quick to catch her phone and clear her throat a bit, just to try and save a little of her dignity.]

I s'ppose I didn't consider it could be so... unfriendly lookin'!
Though, I guess he doesn't look any meaner than a Grimmsnarl... or a shaved one, anyway.

But I guess with somethin' like that at yer side, it's not too surprisin' you're havin' nightmares...
Have you tried talkin' to it, though? Maybe he's a lot friendlier under all the, ah... teeth?

Oh my nightmares aren't about him. They're about other monsters. And zombies.

[A lot of zombies.]

He's pretty blunt. But not mean or anything.

Zombies, huh...

[Marnie resists the urge to call zombies cool, for Sherry's sake. ... Even though she does, in fact, think they're very cool.]

Oh, what about this? When I was little, my big bro would help me imagine up somethin' to help get rid of those nightmares.
You honestly just imagine up the scariest thing you can, even scarier than whatever you keep dreamin' of... but imagine it's as silly and protective as you can.

Like a big monster, but all it wants to do is sit in your lap and keep you safe.
And if it works, you can dream it up anytime a nightmare wakes you up, you know?

[... Really, she's just describing basically every Dark-type Pokemon out there, but look, the logic's sound. Probably.]

[She is so wrong about them being cool.]

Did that work? I mean, could you change your dreams by adding it?

Sometimes, if I thought about it hard enough before goin' back to sleep.

[And speaking of thinking hard about things - there's a pretty noticeable pause on Marnie's end, before her tone picks up a bit as if she's smiling.
She's not, mostly because her face doesn't do that, but it sure sounds like she should be.]

What also helped was talkin' about somethin' else, somethin' happier, so...
D'you wanna meet what helped me get rid of those nightmares for good?

Oh, uhm. Sure? I'd like that.

[Sherry was never one to turn out something that might cheer her up, after all!]

Alright.

[There's a bit of fussing with her phone, here, so she can switch the feed from audio to video - making sure it's faced away from herself by the time it's on, of course.
Instead, it's focusing on her buddy, sitting in the grass. Yes, even though it's so early in the morning. Shhh, don't question it.]

This here's my partner, Morpeko. Can ya give Sherry a big smile for me, Morpeko? [It does so without question, of course! Really, she didn't even need to ask. It even makes a cute little noise to match, like it's saying hello.]

It's been by my side for a real long time, since I was 'bout five years old. My big brother went out'n caught it for me.
Awfully cute, ain't it?

[Sherry's eyes went a bit wide staring at the little creature.]

Oh he's so cute!

[She laughed softly, trying to resist the urge to reach out and touch the screen.]

Is he your familiar?

Ah - Morpeko's a girl, actually! And not my familiar, nah.

[Of course, despite the correction, Marnie's voice is still warm and cheery. It's an easy mistake, after all; it's just more proper in Galarian to use "it" for Pokemon, and it's not like Sherry's seen one before.]

It showed up here with me; I guess it must've been 'cause I kinda carry it around a lot. My actual familiar's a bit meaner... I'd show you, but it might be a bit too scary after a bad dream.
But Morpeko, though - it's been helpin' me with my own bad dreams for a long time. Back home, it had all sorts of powers and abilities that it'd use to keep me safe... hard to be scared of much with somethin' like that at yer side, I'd say.

I wonder if this place has somethin' you could get for that, yourself?
I mean... I've seen more than a few pet shops in town, and a lot of the creatures here are kinda like the ones we had back home - maybe that's somethin' you could look into?

Did she lose her powers when you got here like people did?

[She thought that must've been a lot scarier for an animal than it was for people. Just because they couldn't really understand. And she wanted to ask about the familiar, scary or not, but more importantly...]

You mean like...a magic puppy or something?

[Is it true they couldn't really understand? Well...
In response to Sherry's question, Morpeko itself nods - complete with its face scrunching up almost in some sort of tiny offense and a little "rara!" to match.]

Yeah. Morpeko's been mad about it since we found out! Though I think me gettin' somethin' close to its own powers took away a bit of the sting.

[... Yeah, no, Morpeko still looks upset.]

But that's what I mean, yeah. Somethin' that's got powers that can keep you safe! It'd be a lot easier to sleep with that kinda thing around, right?

[The upset little face made sherry giggle. Sorry Morpeko.]

I've never had a pet. I asked Claire if we could get a puppy but then we ended up here.

I wonder what kind of magic animals you can keep here...

Really? Never? Back in my world, sayin' somethin' like that would guarantee you'd end up with one...

[Or someone would've taken her out to catch her own, at least. It's odd to think of someone growing up without a Pokemon in the house...]

I'd bet there're all sorts, though. I've heard people mention things like dragons, so there ought to be somethin' out there that's tough enough to keep you safe.

My parents weren't pet people. They wouldn't have put up with a barking dog or a cat getting everywhere.

[She'd always wanted a dog though. And she changed the subject immediately bceause focusing on her parents was just going to make her cry again.]

I don't think there's room in the hotel for a dragon!

[She said with a little laugh.]
