What abilities should a sword have?

[Be basic. Be creative. Spring is about renewal, right? He wants to upgrade his Jiangzai.]

If you say it should cut parchment, I will curse you. Anyone can sharpen a blade. I want to talk about magic.

Dark magic especially has a world of possibilities. You could imbue a hex into the sword to afflict anyone you strike with it... or alternately, just cause anyone touching it intense pain. It's hard to ignore an impulse like that, so if you were in a fight, it'd certainly cause your opponent some problems.

Alternatively, get someone with magic you don't have to enchant the sword. Make the sword invisible under a glamour with light magic, maybe? That'd make dodging or parrying annoying.

...Am I thinking too practical? Everyone else seems to have pretty fantastical ideas compared to me.

Ah... yes, that would be a problem, wouldn't it...

I do like that idea with the roots, actually. Or you could seed someone when you cut them, if you fancy a little "set it and forget it" type surprise. At least that way, someone would have to cut themselves on the blade to be harmed by the enchantment, and I assume your husband would know enough not to do that. Unforeseen accidents aside.

Ah, thank you, that's reassuring. Fantastical is fun, but I guess I'm just a practical person when it comes to these things. I ought to go to someone to do the same with my blade, come to think of it...

It never hurts to have a remedy or antidote on hand. Both for accidents and for blackmail purposes.

I'll keep that in mind, then! I have blood and healing magic, which are a pretty good combination when used in tandem, but it does little for me when it comes to enchantments beyond the happy healing kind. Dark magic would be right up my alley, though... causing intense pain like that is perfect for my fighting style. If enemies consider the person with the most annoying skills as the biggest threat, causing pain without actually touching them would rank pretty high, right?

Hah, that's a high compliment, thank you. Well, I do enjoy friends who will watch my back in a fight, I must say.

My name's Irhya. Nice to meet you! I'm also partial to sparring if you ever have something you want to test out, within reason.

Ah, I see we are two of a kind, then. The sooner you realize pain is a state of mind, the easier it becomes to overcome it, even when you should by all rights be doubled over on the ground.

I might take you up on that sometime! Endurance is my biggest strength, so going up against someone with that same strong point will force me to think differently for a change. Gods know I need to switch it up a little to stay sharp.
