Greetings, all. Let me first say to all of those who took on my "quest" last month, you have my utmost gratitude. To those who were concerned about it, matters have been settled, and things are even between the two of us. I just wanted to get that swept away before I ask for advice here.
I am still trying to master Light Magic. For those unaware, this allows the user to disguise themselves with illusions. This isn't exactly unheard of in my realm, but more accustomed to those with dark magic... but that's neither here nor there. The point is, while I'm still trying to master illusions, I've discovered my struggles are actually with creativity. Just copying another's look won't do when I need to distract someone, or to have them focus their attention on anywhere but me.
So, in order to better practice my illusions, I ask this of you - what do you consider beautiful? Hideous? And what doesn't catch your attention at all? And yes, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", but this is about practicality, not compliments about my good looks.

[She gave a teasing giggle.]
Hm, but something I think is beautiful that would be good practice... maybe a flower bouquet.

But I would be curious-- what manner of magic were you familiar with?

As for the question... moon. That's something that is sure to catch my attention.

[He may or may not be biased.]
More practical... hmm. I know for a fact people are drawn to jewels and precious gems.

If you're struggling with creativity...
[They don't want to be That Person who just goes "oh my lover is the most beautiful person I've ever seen", so they'll skip that question for now.]
Have you tried just making yourself look like the complete opposite of you? I don't know that you'd have to overhaul everything, but wouldn't seeing how far you can push your image from what you are naturally help see what you need to practice on most to make things convincing? But I don't have light magic, so I could just be talking out my ass.

For example, the opposite of my lovely locks wouldn't just be straightened hair, but unkept, ratty even!

[They were just throwing darts, mostly.]
Or maybe the opposite would be... if you were bald? The opposite of nice hair might just be no hair.

Using beauty and practicality in the same sphere is an interesting concept. Why should the aesthetics matter?
no subject
Take the quests, for example. If I were to lure out certain beasts or criminals, being able to take on what appeals to them would help greatly, would it not?
no subject
Certainly, but I expect that what we would consider beautiful wouldn't be what a beast would find appealing. Maybe some research on your potential targets would be more beneficial... unless you're looking to entice some of the people responding to you here?

Oh, beauty cannot be so simply reduced...! It is present near everywhere you look! [ she holds an open hand up near her chest, getting into the reverie a bit. ] Roses and moonlight are particular favorites. Learning to cast my own illusions has been quite fulfilling.

Roses are very eye-catching, aren't they? The rich red does have an appeal, even for those who look past the romantic aspect.
no subject
Doesn't it? I find a cloud of petals to be quite the useful illusion, personally!

This leads to a somewhat troubled expression on his face as he thinks.]
Hmmm...beautiful things...
I'd have to say the first snowfall of the winter. There's something almost magical both about the snow falling, and when it has all come to rest on the ground but it has yet to be disturbed. It's soothing to see an unblemished blanket of white over the land.

Hmmm... there is something there, to be sure. Like a blank page before being written, or smooth cloth before it's worn the first time - the purity of the untouched.

[Then after a moment of further thought.] Bonsai trees can be super pretty too.

They're super cool and some of them can even blossom or grow tiny fruits!
