[Jane appears to be sitting in the middle of the woods. It's raining, though not terribly hard, and she doesn't appear too bothered by it as she shelters under a tree with an irritated-looking bird fluffed up on her shoulder.]

I've been thinking about something... and indulge me, because sitting out here waiting for the rain to stop is terribly dull.

[She doesn't use the network too often and rarely for a casual query, but she is bored.]

There are a good many people here from other worlds, yet I often notice that most seem to be... hmm, heroes of some kind, I suppose? Or people who were already powerful in magical ways, or people of high political influence. Some are gods, even. [A little shrug follows this, and she hums thoughtfully.]

So I wondered, then, just how many are not. How many were pulled into this from perfectly ordinary lives where nothing magical or horribly dangerous really happened to them, and they were certainly never anticipating having to halt some multiverse-ending calamity.

[A fat raindrop hits the top of her head and she flinches, looking up and then shuffling further back against the tree.] I'm sure I'm not the only one who often wonders which capricious higher power thought they had the skill set for this.

Do we know if there's any reason for the people who are chosen? [It's a rhetorical question he doesn't expect an answer to.] With, apparently, so many different worlds, can anyone truly sift through them all and choose only those with applicable skills or experiences?

I don't think there is any real reason for it at all. At least... not one that we can understand.

[The question might have been rhetorical, but she thinks about it anyway. Having done this twice now, she has to wonder why she keeps on being pulled into other places like this.]

Perhaps it's more to do with how we interact with each other.

Perhaps...or perhaps we are all fortunate that there are enough of us that we can find people to get along with.

[He says this a little wryly.]

It's good question though. I can't say I've spent a lot of time wondering about the answer.

Oh, I think spending too long wondering about it could easily drive a person completely round the bend.

[Jane laughs as she says this. Though she did ask the question she certainly isn't expecting anyone to offer any deep insights on the matter. Besides, she wouldn't know what to do with such a thing.]

My name is Li Min. And you are Miss Porter? Unless I am mistaken, in which I apologize. [Just judging by the user name, though he was also aware that many people do not use their real names for their user names.]

Oh, yes! Jane Porter. Just Jane is fine.

[Unless he decides to insist, but she's never quite got used to being called 'Miss Porter' and it feels silly to do it when they're all in the same situation here.]

It's entirely my pleasure to make your acquaintance. Have you been here long?

It's been about a year and three months now. What about you?

Ah! So long! I'm shocked we haven't met before now. I've been here for about the same amount of time.

[Maybe a month or two shy, but when it gets to over a year in a place like this one who is really counting.]

In that case it's even more of a delight.

Is that so? What a coincidence....perhaps we simply managed to miss each other.

[Perhaps they ran in different circles?]

It seems like we did.

[Jane supposes there are many people here who she has never met but have been here for a long time. How funny, though, to come across someone who has been here for what sounds like just as long as she has.]

How have you found it here? It isn't always easy, is it.

It's been a little strange and sometimes a little dangerous...but it hasn't been terrible. [He smiles and it is more warm.] Some of my experiences here have been good as well.

What about you?

Oh, I think I can say much the same. [Her own smile brightens, lifting up into her eyes.]

I've had more than enough good experiences to balance out anything bad that might happen. It's often far more difficult than I'd like to keep myself out of trouble, however.

I think trouble comes hand-in-hand with living in this place. If you ever find an easier way to avoid it, I would be interested in hearing about it.

If I ever find a way, I'll be sure to let you know! As it is, I think it just needs to be a matter of making the best of things.

Having good company while it happens certainly doesn't hurt.

[Good company can improve anything.]

[She smiles, nodding in agreement. There is certainly a lot to be said for good company and Jane has been fortunate enough to find much of it, both here and in the previous place she stayed in.]

It doesn't hurt at all. I have been told not to stretch myself quite so thin when it comes to that, but I simply love talking to people.

It is important to save time for yourself.

[He is good at that...but his problem is terrible work life balance.] Though I think the occasional tea with friends is a good thing to do.

Well, I know that I enjoy it very much. [To be fair she tends to enjoy tea under any circumstances but with a friend? Even better.]

I dare say I have the measure of every tea and coffee shop in New Camelot by now.
