If I may only have a moment of your time, might anyone recommend a skilled baker or bakery?

My birthday is later this week and I would rather not make my own cake for the occasion.

I also have a terrible sweet-tooth, I believe is the expression.

Oh, well happy name day, as you said. I hope you had a happy one.

But yes, I did not want to bake on my birthday. It's been a tradition in my home that it's one of the few days of the year I don't have to.

It was all right. I rarely make a big deal of it, but it's an excuse to do something nice for myself that I don't do normally. I hate that it always seems to fall during the cold season no matter where I am, though...

Do you run a bakery yourself? Or is it a hobby or something?

Spring would be just starting where I lived on my birthday.

But I do not run a bakery, I had never thought of such a thing. I'm still finding my footing in independence. I just work for a flower shop at the moment. Baking is a necessity, I grew up in a forest, if you wanted something cooked, you had to make it yourself.

Ah... I grew up in the forest too, but there was a large settlement nearby that you could get sundries from, and a larger one further afield with fully-fledged markets. I can't imagine what it would've been like without those... my mother was worked ragged enough as it was, so we helped with a lot of the cooking as kids.

It's interesting how much easier life tends to be here, isn't it? But it also makes one run the risk of growing complacent in your skills if you rely too much on that technology. Still, automating things has its perks!

My forest was a part of a larger kingdom, but I was not allowed to venture into the kingdom, it would have taken me a full day to get there, in any case. I learned to forage and my Aunt Flora's garden would put many a farmer to shame.

I admit I do not mind being able to store things for much longer.

Why not? I'm sure it would have made your life much easier to go in every once in a while, stock up on provisions that won't go bad in a fortnight, and then make the trip back.

The refrigerators they have here are fantastic inventions! Gods, there's so much technology I want to take home with me... We have ice boxes powered by ice crystals, but being able to control the exact temperature is something that can only be done on the machines here.
