I have a question for everyone here. That is, multiple questions relating to the same topic, if you'd indulge me.
On Tierra, the world I come from, humans were granted form and souls by the creator long ago. What they didn't know at that time was that the creator had also placed souls in other things. Souls that could not be seen or felt but were present nonetheless.
Over time, the humans realised the presence of these souls and discovered how to summon them into physical form. They did this because of an enemy that they couldn't fight on their own - they needed beings with more power, that would not be so easily killed. They found the weapons that they needed in their new creations, which would eventually come to be called 'Food Souls'. They could hold incredible magical ability and strength, and the humans still didn't fully understand where they came from.
Food Souls could be summoned and bound to the summoner, tied to their will, following their orders, and wishing to please them even through mistreatment. After the death of their master, the Food Soul would be left in the world without them.
My question then, is this. Should such beings exist in your world, how do you think they would be treated? How do you think that you would treat such a being? Would they be treated well, or discarded when they had outlived their usefulness?
I'm already aware through previous travels that my world is not entirely unique in this regard. I'm curious, too, how other summoned individuals would describe their experiences.
((any format is fine for reply - he'll answer like for like. text was just easier, given the amount of information he was putting across.))

But I suppose it's looked at like this...
Would you thank a sword for doing a good job? A polearm?
Though many are treated well, many are not. They were summoned to be weapons though admittedly are now more a symbol of status than anything else.

Maybe I wouldn't say "thanks for the hard work!" to a sword
But I would still take good care of it
(If I knew anything about taking care of swords but in this hypothetical. Or I could research it!)
Everything has its own way to be taken care of
But for something like what you're talking about, then it's easier
Because I can ask them "hey, do you know what you'd like?" or "what's something I can do for you?"
And they can answer me!
Win-win!
But in the end, if you're asking for personal opinions
Then I stand by what I said before
If I'm getting the benefit of "status symbol" or a strong fighter on my side
Then as the Master, it's my job to take care of them
No matter how many of them there are
And if I can't manage that, then that reflects on me

It sounds like you would make a fine Master Attendant on Tierra. A Food Soul would be lucky to be summoned by someone who thinks like you.

But it would probably be pretty unlikely
The only way I'd end up being able to summon anything is if it were really dire circumstanceds
Like the end of the world or something
[ Which is more true than she wants to admit. She knows very well that it's only sheer luck (good on her part, bad on others) that has gotten her to the position she was in, back home. ]
But even if I didn't summon one I think I'd like to be friends
I'd bet a Food Soul would have a lot of neat stories to tell

I'm over two hundred years old, myself.
Though that's relatively young in comparison to many of us.

[ Wait. Wait??
In her own room, Ritsuka blinks a couple of times at the message, and then her eyes drift over to the username of the person she's been talking to.
redwine...?
...
...!!
Red wine. Maybe it's not a food, but that probably still counts, right?! That almost certainly has to count! Oh no. Oh heckie. Somewhere out there in the ether, there is a Sherlock Holmes who has been struck with the overwhelming desire to facepalm. ]
Ehhhhhhhhhhhh??
Seriously?!
I had no idea... (*/。\)
Now I probably seem like a huge idiot... ( ̄  ̄|||)

But no, not at all.
I stand by what I said.

But I also thought like
"What if he's just really into wine"
And then I just put that right out of my head
My username is a joke about a ramen brand so I can't throw stones

But I didn't mean to be deliberately misleading. Do accept my apologies.

It's okay, I know me
And I know I can sometimes miss the obvious
My best friend back home is the observant one
I'm the uhhhhh
The one who just starts talking to people regardless?? I guess
