[ When the camera clicks on, it takes a second to focus, like the wielder isn’t quite used to filming, but the image becomes clear soon enough: a solid-looking door with ivy crawling up the wall on either side. On the door’s sole window, painted in simple, blocky black letters, are the words INUI CONSULTING. ]

It’s not home. [ Juzo’s voice comes from somewhere behind the camera. ] But it’ll do.

[ The camera suddenly switches perspective, landing squarely on Juzo’s barrel. As ever, he has a cigarette clamped between his teeth, smoke trailing behind him and background bobbing as he walks into the office. ]

Back home, I worked as a Resolver, which is pretty much what it sounds like: if folks had a problem, I’d solve it for them. Not for free, of course. I’m not runnin’ a charity.

[ A moment of jostling while he takes a seat at his desk. He takes the cigarette from his mouth and exhales a plume of smoke off to the side. ]

Anything from finding missing persons, to bodyguard work, to negotiating peace between rival gangs. My skills cover a wide array. So, I figured why not keep it up here? Not everything’s gonna make it onto the Questboard. And besides, wouldn’t wanna get rusty.

Shinra. Though they've mostly been dismantled by now. De-throned though the current master still lingers around. Just without the power he once laid claim to.

[ Not that Juzo is personally interested in the dismantling of evil, oppressive corporations or anything. Definitely not. ]

A meteor almost destroyed the planet.

[gunmettle]

[ Well, okay. That’s not what he expected at all, and he stares at the camera for a beat or two. This guy said it with such a straight face too. ]

Oh.

Kinda drastic for my taste.

Sometimes drastic measures are needed.

[And he hasn't even gone on about how he's the one who summoned the meteor.]

[gunmettle]

[ Yeah, about that… ]

You make it sound like it wasn’t some kinda natural phenomenon.

[sefirot]

Life and death both exist in the natural order of things.

[This is neither a confirmation or a denial.]

[gunmettle]

Well, that's not vague and menacing at all.

New life springs from the destruction of the old. That is how the order of the universe works.

[gunmettle]

Sure, but takin’ out the whole world to snub out one corporation is kinda overkill, isn’t it?

The destruction of Shinra was a perk, not a goal.

[gunmettle]

So the goal was destruction of... everything?

[sefirot]

Actually, no. And not everything would have died, but I can't say a large majority wouldn't have lost their lives.

[gunmettle]

Uh-huh.

[ Why does he get the sense he’s talking to a supervillain? ]

So, what was the plan, then? You do somethin’ like slinging a meteor at the surface of the planet, I assume you got a reason.

[Because he is.]

The planet releases a great deal of power in order to heal any wound cast upon it. Being in the center of that power would grant someone the ability to do anything -- even the chance to a new future. To become ... god.

[He's also the type who will tell someone (usually Cloud) the entirety of his plans. Fortunately this one already happened and is no longer on the table.]

[gunmettle]

Uh-huh. I’m sorry, don’t think I caught your name.

[ If only so Juzo can put this guy on his “avoid at all costs” list. He didn’t have one of those until right this moment, so congratulations. ]

I haven't given it.

[Not a very useful response.]

I’d say it was a pleasure, but things got a little weird there at the end.

Ah, I suppose you'd prefer that I lie about my previous intentions. If you are concerned, you shouldn't be. The people of this place are mostly meaningless to me.

[gunmettle]

Not exactly, just didn’t expect to uncover so much in one conversation, is all. [ He tilts his head some, exhaling a cloud of cigarette smoke before he deadpans, ] I appreciate the reassurance.
