This is like a public service announcement for anyone that happens to have wings that they didn't have before.

Don't try to fly. Unless you've got kinetic magic any attempt you make is going to go really badly and you're going to hurt yourself and you're going to look stupid.

Birds are naturally designed for flight. They have incredibly strong chest muscles to help with the movement of their wings. Their lung capacity manages oxygen efficiently so they can remain in flight for long periods of time. They have hollow bones which make them lightweight. Their bodies are streamlined in shape to prevent air resistance.

Basically don't do it. But go ahead if you want, just don't die. Otherwise I'm going to meet your ghost and I'm going to laugh at you.

[ That's actually a lie, he's terrified of ghosts. Please don't haunt him if you die from falling off a building trying to fly.

I didn't even mean it that way, not that it makes any sense either way. It was just a joke. More about the quest than about you.

I know I'm not the first to point out that this point sounds very experienced.

And why is that the first assumption?! I'm just trying to bring in common sense to anyone that doesn't have it! If you had wings wouldn't your first instinct be to see if you could fly?

It's because it was phrased in a suspiciously exact way. The combination of respectable bird knowledge and the defensiveness of how stupid it'd look to try it and get it wrong.

I wish I could claim I wouldn't be stupid enough to try, but I'd be lying. Of course I would.

It's a generous act of informing the public by having knowledge not everyone has. Looking deeper into it is just rude.

I've experienced having wings before in a place where it was pretty common to have them appear suddenly. It just makes sense to advise others on not doing things that could hurt them, don't you think?

It's possible with elemental too. Well, kinda. You can glide on the wind and create drafts to propel upwards. Not easy to learn, but it is possible. Then I got kinetic as a secondary and didn't need to mess around more with it.

That I actually wasn't aware of as a possibility, but I assume the best you could get out of it is hovering and gliding as opposed to actual flight. Okay, exception marked, but still.

Wait, so have you been able to accomplish actually flying? I mean whether or not you've got wings.

I got wings, but have seen someone do it with a glider. Back when we all had just one magic type it was that or not fly because this place takes all powers away and replaces them with magic. Was worth all the bruises I got in learning it. Of course I was smart and started from low heights. Also developed ways to use air as a cushion for a fall or to slow descent.

That's a really big risk to take. Even if you knew the possibility was there to learn. At least you went about it as safely as you could.

So kinetic energy by itself isn't enough to make you fly I imagine? I know someone with it and his attempts have never gone very well, he mostly just moves stuff around.

Stuff that is dangerous is the most worth trying. I only started small here because I had to go from being non-human back to being human, but not quite the same as when I was human before. What I am is complicated and weird even for my world.

Kinetic magic alone is enough to make one fly, but wings make it easier. You missed a few of the other properties wings have along with the fact that birds tend to see better than humans.

Even though I don't fully agree with your first statement, I understand what you mean in theory.

[ As his motto goes, unless you make mistakes then you don't really learn anything. The harder the effort for something then the more worthwhile it'll be. But, not everyone was built to endure struggle. ]

Sorry for missing facts. I wouldn't say I'm an expert on birds, I just like to learn about various things.

I'm not stupid, I've never actually tried. I just had wings before and I looked into it and figured out human bodies aren't actually intended for flight.

I mean for birds its okay because its proportional to their height. If we had hollow bones it'd be. Not a good time. Which is why we don't have hollow bones.

But I don't know maybe magic can fix that. Animal magic lets you turn yourself into an animal. It could probably mimic the anatomy of a bird? I haven't tried getting that far with my magic.

And the way animal magic works is mostly you're able to talk to animals. You can turn into an animal too but that requires a lot of practice.
