[ Sometime in the middle of the month, a video is uploaded to the network. It's pre-recorded and opens with a man in his late 20s (Emet-Selch) setting up his phone so that it will stay in place and upright. Many will recognise the scene behind him as being one of the generic kitchenettes belonging to an inn room.

On the table before the camera are a few sheets of paper with alchemy circles drawn on them, heaped with small piles of raw, natural ingredients such as salt and clay and the like. ]

Hmm... It appears to be functioning as intended. Good.

[ Retreating from the camera, he crosses his arms. His posture is quite lax, attire casual, but his manner is quite austere. ]

This is intended for the man I met almost a moon ago, who proposed to me the idea of creating a a book - a grimoire, if you will - filled with pages of alchemical circles that I might easily access spells I need instead of drawing them anew time and again. But I am sure there are others who may benefit from this knowledge as well.

[ He gestures, drawing attention to the pages on the table. ]

Here, I have drawn some simple transformations. Observe--

[ At his whistle, a dog-sized, shadowy, dragon-like creature hops up on to the seat next to him. Emet-Selch focuses on the pages and his familiar follows suit. The first circle begins to glow.

A snap of his fingers, a flash of light, and suddenly there is a ceramic plate sitting on top of the page in place of its raw components. It is plain and unfired of course, but it is certainly a plate.

He repeats this process for the next two sheets of paper, producing a square of cloth and a short, wooden rod respectively. ]

I have yet to see if this transformation can be done without placing the raw materials within the circle itself, but for now, it seems promising.

[ END TRANSMISSION. ]

[The reply that comes should have been fully and utterly expected.]

An elderly man? I feel sorry for poor master Regis, if you of all people would call him old.

[He grins his usual shite-eating grin.]

Ah, but I am glad he is a common acquaintance. I've met him as well, likely at around the same time as yourself. Quite the dignified man, although 'tis hardly surprising for a ruler.

A sovereign of the kingdom of Lucis - one hundred and thirteenth of his name! I was quite taken with him, to tell you the truth. 'Twill be a pleasure to work with him.

[Hythlodaeus sips his drink - it's unclear what it is, but there is a soft steam rising from it. His expression is that of embarrassing fondness as he watches the recording.]

Quite well in some aspects, frustratingly disappointing in others. The power is strangely restrictive - I would have expected to be able to influence animals, for one, but it appears that 'tis only people I can transfer my thoughts to. Or, at the very least, beings of a similar level of cognition, presumably capable of speech. At the same time, a once-living creature does not count as an object I can extract memories from. I am uncertain as to why exactly. Mayhaps 'tis simply the sheer level of complexity of the aether comprising it?
weenwoon: haki.... nyaki (you see~)

[That look is not going anywhere, and everyone in the cafe takes 2d12 mental damage from Hythlodaeus's embarrassingly affectionate aura. He does perk up at the proposition though.]

That is quite an interesting idea! Have you seen any? I would also love to know how the Lifestream functions here.

i hate these two frankly

[The sudden lack of precision in Hades's sketching does not go unnoticed, and Hythlodaeus can't help but grin--and tease. It's not his fault his friend set himself up for this perfectly.]

Oh goodness, I fear your pencil strayed there. Are you well, most eminent Emet-Selch? I do know naught would sway your focus in your usual state.

[Yes, he went there. The news of Morgana is a lot less pleasing, though.]

Exchanging lives?.. That sounds somewhat--oh, I know not what to call it. If 'tis energy she requires for the resurrection, surely there are other sources?
weenwoon: haki is too powerful (unusually serious)

wow he's not the thirsty one hes just disgustingly affectionate

[Luckily(???), the mention of Zodiark and the sacrifices their people made--will make, from Hythlodaeus's point of view--serves to silence him for a while and wipe the grin off his face. The reply comes later than its brevity deserves.]

Equal though it may be, that is still a cruel exchange.

[Hythlodaeus fiddles with his spoon for a little while, clearly not hungry anymore.]

...Promise me you'll be careful.
weenwoon: fingerguns........... at haki (il mheg chill mheg)

EMET IS OBJECTIVELY A LOT MORE THIRSTY, THEREFORE

[For what it's worth, the declaration of worry elicits a smile from him.]

Have I given you cause to be worried? I am much less of a warrior than yourself and aware of the fact. I do my best to stay out of such trouble.

[He half-laughs softly.]

A rather grim setting for a date, do you not find? I do find the idea intriguing, however. But mayhaps we ought to bring someone else along, just for the sake of safety.
weenwoon: (worst best friend)

[When the answering recording starts, it's extremely obvious that Hythlodaeus had just burst out laughing - he's grinning widely, wiping at his eyes a little. Got you.]

Beg your pardon, most eminent Emet-Selch, but 'twas yourself who proposed we 'reacquaint' ourselves. As for a chaperon - what of Irhya? Or have you someone else in mind?
