[ Sometime in the middle of the month, a video is uploaded to the network. It's pre-recorded and opens with a man in his late 20s (Emet-Selch) setting up his phone so that it will stay in place and upright. Many will recognise the scene behind him as being one of the generic kitchenettes belonging to an inn room.

On the table before the camera are a few sheets of paper with alchemy circles drawn on them, heaped with small piles of raw, natural ingredients such as salt and clay and the like. ]

Hmm... It appears to be functioning as intended. Good.

[ Retreating from the camera, he crosses his arms. His posture is quite lax, attire casual, but his manner is quite austere. ]

This is intended for the man I met almost a moon ago, who proposed to me the idea of creating a a book - a grimoire, if you will - filled with pages of alchemical circles that I might easily access spells I need instead of drawing them anew time and again. But I am sure there are others who may benefit from this knowledge as well.

[ He gestures, drawing attention to the pages on the table. ]

Here, I have drawn some simple transformations. Observe--

[ At his whistle, a dog-sized, shadowy, dragon-like creature hops up on to the seat next to him. Emet-Selch focuses on the pages and his familiar follows suit. The first circle begins to glow.

A snap of his fingers, a flash of light, and suddenly there is a ceramic plate sitting on top of the page in place of its raw components. It is plain and unfired of course, but it is certainly a plate.

He repeats this process for the next two sheets of paper, producing a square of cloth and a short, wooden rod respectively. ]

I have yet to see if this transformation can be done without placing the raw materials within the circle itself, but for now, it seems promising.

[ END TRANSMISSION. ]

May be the first spell has too strong'f a hold. Did y'try it with a normal pot? One y'hadn't made yourself that is.

[ Small pause here. ]

No, I haven't. I suppose 'tis worth a try.

[ He appears to step away for a bit. Judging by the faint background noise, he is searching for something appropriate to use. ]

[ What started as Cehd'ra giving a potential hornet nest a testing prod has turned into something much closer to productive. What a nice surprise. ]

Here, can y'film it? 'Curious to see if it works myself.

[ He'll turn the camera on himself first, revealing the long, furred ears that mark him as Miqo'te and thus from Hydaelyn. Or at least one of her shards. ]

[ Further sounds of rattling. Then a quiet 'aha'. It takes a few moments for him to return and switch on the camera, the feed on his end showing sitting in that self-same kitchen but from a slightly different angle. Emet-Selch holds up a simple drinking glass and wriggles it. ]

Well then, for this experiment I shall attempt to reduce glass into sand. Or rather, silicate.

[ On a fresh sheet of paper, he painstakingly designs an alchemic circle, brow furrowed in concentration. Once he's done, he places the glass in the middle of the circle and whistles for his familiar to join him.

The gwiber hops up on to an adjacent chair. Together, they focus their magicks upon the circle and the inked lines glow. Emet-Selch snaps his fingers and there's a flash of light...but instead of a pile of raw, coarse material, there is only a misshapen lump of glass. ]

[ For his part, Cehd'ra waits patiently, though he wishes the camera were at a better angle to see. He ends up squinting his eyes near the screen for a moment...thankfully not the same one in which Emet-Selch snaps the spell into being and triggers that bright flash.

Cehd'ra's ears perk high in anticipation--and then droop just as quickly. ]

Tsk, damn. Well, s'a change at least. That's progress, right?

[ He shrugs, dissatisfied. ]

I suppose. 'Tis too early to tell whether it is my own incompetency or some other factor. Is there aught else you would have me attempt?

Aw, don't be so hard on yourself. 'Bet you'll have it quick enough with some practice.

[ Cehd'ra is wholly sincere with his encouragement. He's never known a Garlean to disparage themselves, not even as a joke. Surely that means this particular Garlean's not that bad at all. ]

As for other tricks...may be turning one thing into another? Forks t'spoons or some such. But t'tell the truth 'unmaking' a thing'll be damned useful. I'd say keep working at that.

Turning forks into spoons ought to be a simple matter. I am simply rearranging the mass and shape after all.

[ He stands and partially vanishes again, this time to fetch one of the cutlery. Returning to his seat, he starts drawing up another circle for transforming the piece of silverware into something else. As he does so, he continues: ]

Then again, I see little point in unmaking an object when the likely intent is to recreate it as something else. One may as well gather the objects and transform them into the new, final product.

Well...

[ Cehd'ra rubs the back of his neck, ears twisting in thought. ]

Suppose you've been stuck somewhere. Trapped or locked up. Y'could simply 'unmake' the walls 'tween you and freedom. That'd be a fair ways easier'n trying t'make a key, wouldn't it?

[ A light frown. Not because he disagrees but because it's a good point. ]

Surely it cannot be that easy. Then no prison could hold an alchemist.

May be. Best t'keep practicing and find out, eh? 'Mean, it is all some new sort'f magic. Who's to say what it can or can't do?

[ He frowns further and drops his gaze to the misshapen lump of glass, clearly thinking the suggestion over. It's a tempting idea. If he can manage it then it could be quite a powerful one too. And it's not as though he has anything better to do with his time besides pursue this new branch of study right now. ]

I'll see what I can do, [ he says eventually. ]

[ There have certainly been points in Cehd'ra's life where he would have given anything for a power like that. His own cognitive magic has it's place, he's sure, but it doesn't feel as immediately useful as this 'alchemy' on display. ]

That's the spirit! I'll let y'get back to it. You'll show us your progress again down the line, eh?

Of course.

[ He glances back up and offers a faint smirk. ]

If one only puts in half the effort to learn something, one may as well not bother trying at all. Until then...

[ He gives the other man a nod and reaches forward. The video from his end cuts off shortly after. ]
