[A boy appears on the screen, sitting on a bench somewhere out in the city. He doesn't appear to be looking at the screen directly, but off into the fog. He looks contemplative.]

So, how many of you are planning to go to the docks on the first?

[He's referring to Merlin's little addendum to King Arthur's announcement. It sounds as though they're expected to send the traders off in style, but he's not quite sure how to go about that just yet. There are a few ideas floating around in his head, but he wants to hear if anyone else has ideas, too. Especially if they have more experience in matters like these.]

[Oh- she recognised the voice, but this was the first time she'd gotten a proper look at him on video. So this was who she'd been conversing with about weapon development... if Mukuro hadn't joined the military at a young age herself, perhaps she would have been a little more surprised at his appearance, but as it was- oh. She probably shouldn't just say she's turning up as Blade Anon, right? Sure would make identifying her easy.

Seriously after all the junk I'm hearing about the trials that've been going on since I skipped town, seems like dealing with them directly's way more trouble than it's worth.

[She still thought they should just invade already, but this was a decent second option.]

The traders have yet to do me wrong. I'm willing to give their plan a shot.

In fact, having witnessed the quality of Celliwig's trials, I would not mind going around them whether or not they approve of the variety of our natures.

[And what an interesting turning of the tables that would be.]

Yeah, they've always had pretty useful stuff that I've seen- got a few things so I can travel around faster, oh and they had some totally great lipstick a little while back!

[Please believe she's a fashionista and not suspect anything?]

Tell me about it, though...you got roped into any of the stupid trials, then? I figured it was too much hassle to bother with, you know?

[He doesn't even know what a fashionista is. The whole concept is alien to him. So, congratulations, he doesn't suspect a thing yet.]

Correct. However, their first tests were inherently flawed in design, so as far as I'm concerned, they had no right to look down on us for the results they received. They literally got what they asked for.

Huh? What'd you mean flawed? Like... okay I seriously don't know how I made it over, but I'm guessing you mean something broader than that?

I don't really get what they were hoping to get out of it.

We were given an initial objective of harvesting crystals. Not only this, but the requirements for harvesting those crystals were made clear at the outset. Only those brave of soul and pure of heart were expected to obtain them.

A setup like that discourages participation from those who are aware they do not meet the requirements. Especially those who meet neither of the requirements.

Yeah that's true...like, I imagine a lot of people just saw what was required and just avoided it.

I mean, forced participation is one way to get around that, still a mess though.

[Walter's expression darkens. He's very much taken exception to the six test in particular. Even though they were lying when they said one would die, he remains angered.]

[She couldn't help but be a little worried, even if this was a supposed 'stranger'.]

...Not at all. I'm used to far worse.

[And yet iciness has crept into his tone. He may be accustomed to harsher circumstances, but there are others here who are not, and should not be subjected to them.]

They simply crossed a line.

[She definitely wanted to ask what he was referring to, but no- that wasn't appropriate for the role she was playing right now.]

Tell me about it. And if they turn around and tell us we're still not good- or, evil, I guess- enough for them I swear someone's gonna get slapped.

Who knows, perhaps a good slap will improve their opinion of us.

Though I wouldn't recommend the gamble for anyone that isn't willing to risk their life to find out.

I guess if they're trying to test our guts- trust me, these nails of mine can hurt if I want them to.

[Wiggling her garish, far too long, fake red nails at the camera.]

In addition to those here undergoing Celliwig's tests, those interested in directly dealing with Elphame are suggested to show up at the docks on the first of the month to put on a good show before the traders leave.

To send them off in style, in other words.

Well, has anyone considered fireworks? That's the only kind of thing I know how to make.

I'm not sure what all anyone has considered. I'm not exactly the most social chap, but I haven't heard much talk about this in public.

[There's a handful of people adamantly pushing war, but most of the rest seem focused on Celliwig right now.]

I did end up with a recipe for a sort of firework a few months back... I haven't had much occasion to use it though.

I didn't think there was more than one way to make fireworks...

Magic seems to be used for nearly everything in this place.

Though, if you're able to make fireworks, that could be useful for a show whether or not others are able to use the spell. I daresay the more dazzling, the better, in this case.

Just because you want them to be more, uh, 'dazzling' doesn't mean that it's possible. Adding extra things could stop the mixture from exploding.

I'm more familiar with munitions than fireworks, but some of the principles overlap.

[The burning and exploding parts. One just happens to be routinely put to more lethal use.]

Yes, that's right. The mixture matters a whole lot! You have to get it just right, or you've just wasted critical materials. It's kind of like cooking, in that way.

What are munitions? I'd never seen anything even close to fireworks before I learned how to make them. Unless you mean like sending signals?

No. While they can be used to signal others, munitions are weapons.

I'm from a time of war.

So am I, but from what I understand, a lot of people know more about technology than I do. That's probably a word that hasn't been invented where I'm from.

It makes sense that with technological advances in peaceful activities would come advances in weapons too. Even if I wish that wasn't the case.

Well, heavy subjects aside, one thing I did observe from munitions is that some burn different colours.
