There are a great number here not previously acquainted with magic, and so I am compelled to share some rather pertinent advice:

Please be aware that offerings of blood ought not be taken or given lightly. As surely as there are many fledgling casters dabbling in dealings with the substance here, there will likely be as many much keener to the art, be it here or their realm of origin.

Blood and names are some of the strongest components of the "self" in many magic disciplines; do be mindful of whom you are giving such precious and limited resources to.


Or don't. I can only offer my perspective; it is entirely up to you to decide whether or not it matters. Just be aware that some courses are harder to correct than others.

Well yeah, already figured using too much of my own blood and I get lightheaded. Need to watch for that.

I assume you're referring to the Archivist himself, and in that case, I would also assume he has no reason to have vacated the place...considering it is his archive.

That aside, yes: Do be more mindful of your magical exertion, on yourself just as much as others. Realmswide disasters can't solve themselves, and they certainly won't be helped by someone miscasting themselves into a stupor.

And as for "the whole magic thing"...yes, I am a trained sorcerer. While I've studied many disciplines, I can't say I'm an authority on how magic behaves here. It is all very relative to the realm one resides in.

But yeah, I'll be careful. Last thing I want is to pass out in a fight either- You were a sorcerer though? Was the magic in your world like the magic in this one at all?

And yes -- there are similar veins of magic in this realm as there was where I am from.

Guessing that makes getting used to all this easier, then? Or is it just frustrating starting from scratch?

It is both of those things: Easier and frustrating. I already know my fundamentals, so relearning them can feel a chore, but it does give me an edge on mastering the way magic prefers to be handled here. I did not previously rely on a familiar or many external sources for my conjurations.

I guess that makes sense. Mean it'd be like if you gave someone used to handling a firearm a bow and arrow to shoot with.

Like, you're shooting a projectile through the air in both cases so the concept of what it's supposed to be doing isn't totally new, but they're really different to handle.

As I said magic isn't really a 'thing' where I'm from so it's a bit overwhelming, you know? Guess it's interesting hearing about it from someone who's done all this before.

It would be a bit simplistic to state that magic is but a tool, but in many ways, it is. A healthy measure of respect is in order all the same; equating it to deadly weapons from the world you know will be adequate enough for now until you develop your magic skills surpass it.

Yeah I see what you mean. So long as that'll do for the time being, that's good.

...How long do you think it'll take to get used to it? Magic I mean?

That depends entirely on you, don't you think? Not just your proclivity, but your natural strengths, your interests, and your ambitions all play a part in the growth or stagnation of such a muscle.
For someone who has grown from a world entirely empty of it, I'd imagine it will take some time for you to adjust your thinking-ways to including magic as a part of your daily life and problem-solving.

That's definitely true. Some of my magic I've just not really used at all because it just doesn't fit with how I do things.

But I guess that's on me more than anything else.

Being aware of that is but a beginning step. You'll need to take the initiative to learn and grow, to find those natural limits you've yet to discover.
