There are a great number here not previously acquainted with magic, and so I am compelled to share some rather pertinent advice:

Please be aware that offerings of blood ought not be taken or given lightly. As surely as there are many fledgling casters dabbling in dealings with the substance here, there will likely be as many much keener to the art, be it here or their realm of origin.

Blood and names are some of the strongest components of the "self" in many magic disciplines; do be mindful of whom you are giving such precious and limited resources to.


Or don't. I can only offer my perspective; it is entirely up to you to decide whether or not it matters. Just be aware that some courses are harder to correct than others.

I have traveled to many places with many sorts of spellcraft study and tradition prior to being drawn here, and while there is no singular way core magic energies can be harness and utilized, there are norms and trends that crop up repeatedly regardless of distance or time.

Have you found yourself learning anything new about magic since coming to this world? Any major differences between here and the places you have traveled to previously?

I have, yes.
The sharp divisions with which magic disciplines here manifest and are categorized seem quite inorganic; it is odd to me that a person more versed in the dark arts cannot also find means to master other disciplines as well, for example. The restrictiveness isn't unheard of, as there are species of people who are actually defined by such things, but as a general whole, I have found such a thing to be quite rare.

Magic is a matter of will and balance -- both the surplus and the absence. Here, outworlders are imbued with facets of the general fabric of magic as it exists, but only as conduits. Almost like phylacteries.

If you don't mind my asking... what was your profession on your home world?

Is this something you've studied? You seem so willing to share with the people on this network. Understandable, but... I'm sure there are plenty of people who've benefited from reading this.

I have had many jobs and roles, many of which involved magic -- the study and teaching of sorcery being one of them. If I must do so again, so be it; it won't do to have an island saturated with uneducated, latent sorcery.

You do know there's a school that teaches magic here, right? Not that I think you'd be a professional given this world has so many types of magic that are restricted. I'm also, of course, operating under the assumption that like everyone on this network, you're an off-worlder yourself. To ease your mind, have you ever considered working at that school? Also, what magic(s) do you have?

Not much of a school if most, if not all, of the outworlders present have little contact with it, yes? It ought to be mandatory. Had I more energy and capacity to do so, I would take it upon myself to do so. As it stands...my expertise is greatly undercut by my own lack of study in the mannerisms here.

It pays the students. I agree that it should be mandatory. I don't think enough people even know about it. Maybe the King should have that included in the welcoming procedures.

How baffling. Why wouldn't such a thing be required at the onset?
Then again, considering the absolute debacle of a solstice event we had to experience, perhaps I oughtn't be surprised by ineptitude.

Utter foolishness. A wizard was able to successfully hex almost everyone there, which left most addled and altered in their sensibilities. Such an irresponsible misuse of magic will only become more pervasive the more people are left to experiment with their limits all willy-nilly.
