This is Sakurayashiki.

( it's not only a polite greeting to a new place, but what he can surmise is a good way to see if anyone from home is here without having to debase himself with pleas to get in touch.

that said, he's already looked through the network and not seen anyone, username nor person, who looks like his friends from home. so it's unlikely, but unlikely has never meant impossible. best to be prudent. )

I seek a partner to retrieve some holographic rocks with me. ( which sounds truly absurd and too much like the kinds of games and television he enjoyed as a child, but fine.

and more importantly... this is something of an inefficient system for discovering potential quest partners, but he's still brainstorming exactly how to improve it. )

You should have some level of physical fitness and the ability to interact properly with clients. Understanding of your magic is also an advantage.

( Kaoru, baby, it's not a job advert. also the only time you've touched your magic was at the training grounds, you hypocrite. )

[Joking ahead, he really hoped that this person knew what he was getting himself into. Based on his text, this person seemed like he was too serious for his own good.

I'm at the inn outside the city.

( the hot springs are very nice and he plans on taking full advantage while he's still saving the money necessary to find a place. )

[With that, off Ken went to go find this mysterious person outside of the city! As he does so, he looked down at Koromaru before giving a small sigh.

Will this quest go well? He doesn't know but he just had to hope for the best!]

( a boy and a dog, hm? well, since he doesn't have a parasol here, Kaoru is just going to settle for watching from the lobby of the inn, passing time by reading things on his phone, dictating notes to Carla (he'll need to investigate hooking her up to these phones, the procedure he would have used back home is dependent on a computer and clearly not made for something that functions partially with magic? that's still something his brain doesn't particularly want to accept as real, but all evidence is proving...) and getting stared at by passers by (most likely).

[Now that he got a good look at this mysterious person, Ken had to admit. He was reminded a little of Mitsuru as he sure looked like someone who was elegant and intelligent. However, at the same time, there was probably some lack of common sense. With a small hum, he gave his hand out to him.

( all skateboarders are idiots at some level. he would never outright say that, but he's heard Kojiro utter the sentiment and always privately agreed. even the way he skates — calculated, keeping risk to a minimum, optimising everything for speed — is still a fool's hobby, if he thinks about it.

Correct. ( he begins a customary bow, but smoothly transitions into a handshake as he notices the young man's hand in front of him. )

[Well. He was use to bowing to people back in Japan but it was another to have someone older than him do that! For a moment, Ken just stared at him as he allowed the older teenager to shake his hand.

While there were older people who did take him seriously, it was strange to be shown a level of respect that was more based on those older than him.]

Uh...Ken Amada and this is Koromaru. [He said before pointing to his dog.] It's very nice to meet you. [Nevermind that he was still in shock at the bow.]

( it's true that he wouldn't normally, but these aren't normal situations. he's somewhat reliant on this young man's help and presumed expertise, and a little bit of respect is necessary for the moment.

once he loosens up about this whole thing however? all bets are going to be off. )

[He said before looking at his phone. As he glanced at the map, he looked upward at the older teen.]

If we go over there, I'm sure we'll be at the river in no time. [Although, based on the way Ken said his words, he sounded a bit awkward.

How shall he approach this older teen?]

( d-does he seem that young? he's not sure if it's a compliment or not. )

Can we expect to encounter any wildlife? ( he's done his best to research things, but mostly all he's had time to find are articles about the types of wildlife present in Camelot and its surroundings. not exactly helpful for understanding the potential threats on the way there. )

[It was here that Ken wondered if he should be honest or not. Kaoru seemed to be the type who would worry over everything and would be scared about animals. But at the same time?]

We probably will but if it gets bad, I can either talk or fight them. Koromaru and I could take them down!

[He said before Koromaru gave out a loud bark! He and his owner can fight whatever comes their way!]

Dear Sakurayashiki,

I hope this message finds you well. I have read your request and, if you are still seeking a travel partner to visit the river, I would be most happy to fill the role.

I understand that you are concerned about compatibility for the trip; I believe I would be able to meet your requests, or at least not disappoint you unduly. The distance to the river is not so much as to render it an impossible endeavor. I have also kept studiously to my magic practices during my time here, though I would pray not to need it for a task as straightforward as this-- one hopes the trip will not be marred by danger.

Regardless of whether you find my company amenable, I would recommend visiting the river after the morning hours as Avalon's May fog needs time to dissipate and reveal the lovely scenery there.

While one hopes there is no need for magic in this trip, I do believe it best to be prepared at all times. Might I ask which schools of magic you use? For your reference, I have animal and technological magic.

Given current weather patterns, I would suggest we set out after breakfast, perhaps at ten am. My personal estimation is that travel should take no more than a day, though I will defer to your expertise in that matter.

I was bestowed with the magic types Alchemy and Kinetic. Alchemy is my foremost skill; I fear I am still a mere beginner with kinetic. Recently I have also successfully worked in potioncraft, albeit the result is for medical emergencies. I am happy to bring a dose for safety.

I agree that our foray to the river would be a day trip at most. As you have so noted in your letter, I understand that you are also staying at the inn? That is fortuitous; it should make meeting to travel together quite simple!

If you find all of this satisfactory, I am sure I can meet you at the inn's entrance on the morrow.

well, that should make them easy to spot at least. and Kaoru is proven right when he steps out and immediately catches a glimpse of a person in a full suit of armour. it doesn't seem like the kind of armour one would purchase in a place like this, so it would be a reasonable assumption that this person came to Avalon like this. )

Excuse me, are you here for the retrieval quest?

I guess that would make you the person asking for help.

[He stands up from the fence he had been leaning against and nods at Kaoru.]

You ready to go?

Of course.

( he doesn't have anything visibly on him, but he's just got here and barely owns anything. his skateboard remains in the room he's using at the inn, because he doubts it will be useful, but Carla's bangle does, of course, gleam on his wrist. )

I don't have many belongings at this moment, I'm afraid. I hope that won't be an inconvenience.

( he's not afraid of roughing it for a night or two, despite what the high quality fabric of his outfit might suggest. besides, his main benefit isn't items (unfortunately, not even Carla at this moment, as she isn't hooked up to Avalon's internet system), but rather his mind. )

I can't imagine it will be. Ideally this won't take too long, and the job description doesn't suggest anything dangerous.

Indeed. ( it's a shame he's hardly had time to get to grips with more than the talking to animals portion of this new magical ability, but earning money is something that can't really wait. staying in a free inn room, sharing with another, is something that's quickly losing its novelty for Kaoru. )
