1. what do you know about job interviews?
i didnt know you have to interview to get jobs. even if it's just at a restaurant!! regardless of whether the job itself involves talking to people at all!!? stupid
[ Guess who's been bombing interviews as a part-time busboy all over town. And who's only bothering to ask about proper employment beyond random quests, um, now, after several months of just getting by...? He must be getting tired of stealing hotchips from the cornerstore. ]
2. what do you know about going to school as a full-time student here?
i heard you can make a living like this
insight about going to school in other worlds could be useful too. i was homeschooled....
[ But at least he's thinking in terms of solutions. ]

[ Zuko doesn´t have any savings, what is that ]
you study magic and local language and manners....? i studied language and manners at home thats not so challenging
[ Yes, it was. Give him a sword, he´s second to none. Give him a chance for public speaking...? Up in flames. ]
whats the most challenging thing about school here
no subject
For me it's really anything I have to memorize like laws and the languages tho some of it isn't so bad. I like talking to people and being able to talk to them but when it gets to the grammar stuff... :×
At least I don't have to do math any more!!!
no subject
[ Read: He buys the most expensive options as a rule of thumb across the board because high price probably indicates high quality, is his baseline assumption. Which just means he robs himself. "Tea" should not be so expensive that it is in a separate category from food, but y'know what, it is. "Gifts for his familiar," though...? Could probably do without that expense???
His dragon disagrees, don't stop spoiling him with expensive gifts, um]we have to learn about the laws here too?? that's useful
i'd rather learn about law than maths too
no subject
[ He assumes, because tea and all that other stuff lasts a while in his mind. Of course this dude must just be talking about upfront costs! Makes sense! ]
But yeah man. Like for example you're not allowed to hunt anything in the forests for sport only to eat and some animals are so sacred it doesn't even matter. I think that's pretty cool but I can see that being an easy mistake for some people to make especially fishers and stuff.
no subject
[ oh my god he's been surviving this long how
He just drinks a lot of tea, okay, he needs to relax! ]
that's good. hunting for sport should be illegal
that became a problem where i'm from. a sacred animal was hunted to extinction. seems like they're fine here though so that law must be working out all right
no subject
[ Here it comes, the other shoe, the pin... they're poised to drop. ]
I agree tho and I'm glad you can see that animal again here. Killing animals for sport isn't manly at all! The only other reason to get rid of them would be to protect people and even that I'm not too sure about. Did you read the quest board where a bunch of these things are trapping and eating people from and near this underwater village? It's really gnarly but I'm wondering why they can't be relocated or something?
no subject
so depending on the blend of leaves yeah it can be expensive
[ Zuko has literally ordered "whatever's the most expensive" before, verbatim, as a leap of good faith that it must mean he's buying the best. The teashop owners like him. And will never correct him. Even if it's obvious that's his line of thinking. He's a loyal customer. ]
i saw that too and wondered the same thing
i don't think all life is equal, i eat meat and i fight people, but i do think all life is sacred and that the reasons for harming other living things should be sound, worthwhile. everything has a right to exist, basic level.

[ This is all giving him some serious Yaoyorozu and Todoroki vibes. They're the richest kids in his class ( or were ) and while neither of them are the type to openly flaunt their wealth or be stuck up about it, there's definitely some privileged quirks or comments. Like how Yaoyorozu told everyone their school dorm rooms were the size of her closet and the four-poster bed she stuck in it left almost no room for anything else. Meanwhile everyone else can work out, sleep, and study in theirs. Priorities. ]
I like that. That's a really good way to put it fireprince!
[ Oh. Prince. Could that...? ]
I love fighting and I CAN'T live without meat but I've never had to kill anything besides bugs before. I dunno if I could do it :X I guess I'll have to wait a little longer to be a knight unless someone smarter than me can come up with a plan to move those things.
no subject
[ Not a lie exactly. But certainly not the truth, indeed. He's not prone to flaunting his status. Quite the opposite, these days. ]
youre lucky.
i hope you never have to find out if you can do it or not
but if you're trying to become a knight.... you may have to put it to the test someday sooner than you think.
no subject
[ He pauses a little at the next portion, frowning. It sounds like fireprince here wasn't so lucky. ]
Maybe... Why do you say sooner? Is there something in particular you're thinking about?
no subject
they probably want us to move out eventually, i guess you're right..
[ ya firebitch still lives in the inns for free and just. is fine with that? Apparently? He's less demanding of his own environment than he is of tea leaves?! A normal person who can cook would probably be eager to get to a place with a real kitchen but... what would Zuko do with a kitchen...? ]
no
but those chances don't wait until you "feel ready" you know
that's all.
no subject
Yeah... I think I know what you mean. Back home my class went through some crazy stuff that wasn't planned at all. And I don't think anybody was ready to come here...
But hey if you go to school maybe we'll have some of the same classes! You can always try it out and leave later if you find a job right? And you don't have to do any interviews!
no subject
thats true. theres nothing to lose.
i think i'm gonna go. it sounds like it's the right choice.
and as long as it helps me get my fire back, then that's really my only goal ultimately. anything else is a bonus.
no subject
He's like your age and he'd still be a much better dad to u emotionally, Zuko, excuse u, don't even compare.]And a lot of jobs take school as experience! At least where I'm from! So even if you tank your interview you would still have a really good resume here to fall back on!
What do you mean get your fire back?
no subject
i dont have a resume either, i know i should....
i just never needed to do any of this stuff before.
as to fire
i had something like fire magic naturally back home
i just want to regain those abilities, even if it's different
i dont feel like myself fully without my flames
no subject
I can relate. The magic I got here is nothing like the ability I was born with! Sometimes it feels like idk... like they took away my arm and put on a laser canon! Like the canon is cool but I really want my arm back!
no subject
pretty sure the restaurant managers don’t care if i can use broadswords :|
[ Zuko gets a way bigger kick out of this laser canon arm metaphor than he expected... This guy is funny. ]
Yeah!!!! thats how i feel!! i never wanted a canon i just need both my arms!!
no subject
With how crazy this world seems to be I don't even get why it would need to change us! I guess that's what it's gonna take to fix everything else... But we can still be pissed off about being a canon army!
no subject
maybe i should start working that into interviews!!
"skills: dao swords, fire, and busing tables"
[ It can go unappreciated for now how difficult it is to make Zuko type "haha." This is not a jokester by nature, here. But he's learning. Meat and Sarcasm Guy, Jr. in training. ]
yeah!!! its okay to be pissed about it but still work hard at it
what are your powers back home?? and here??
i just got siphoning magic in addition to my elemental magic..... i dont know what im doing though. back home i can redirect lightning but...... it's dangerous. i dont know about breaking curses. or water magic. it's opposite to my nature!! back home all i had is fire, people can only bend one element.
unless you're the avatar, the only person who can wield all four elements
and i never wanted to be the avatar >:|
no subject
My power was called Hardening and I could make any part of my body rock hard to shield people or smash through obstickles. [ Honestly it's an achievement and a testament to a good tutor he got his spelling right this far. ] Here it's healing and blood but I've only worked on healing so far. One of my best friends has lightning for his power!!! It would just fry his brain for a little while if he went all out.
I can get that tho. Everyone where I'm from had only one power which we called Quirks. The only guy who had more was a villain and it took the #1 hero to put him in prison. It sounds like SO much to have to keep up with.
I mean I don't see why you gotta do anything but fire if you don't want to. Do you?
no subject
at least i haven't threatened anyone yet
"hire me or else"
[ This guy's funny. Zuko likes him already. ]
healing and blood magic
that sounds like an interesting combination....
my friend katara has healing magic here. she's a waterbender back home and has healing abilities... and she can bloodbend.
yeah having to master more than one element is a lot of pressure for aang too. he's also in a major time crunch back home, though..
thankfully it's the avatar's job to keep peace in the world..... the avatar is not a villain.
i want to learn all the elements, i do
they're all connected spiritually
even back home
another firebender would never expect me to use a waterbending move to firebend
there's more behind it than just the physical element itself. how we fight and think is different. you've gotta be able to think outside the box.
just so happens that's really annoying sometimes but
still worth it.
no subject
I've only been on one and I was pretty much sure to get the job as long as I wasn't a jerk. My school got me on the job training. IDK if this school will do the same but that'd be awesome.
Is bloodbending like blood magic? Would it be weird to ask if I could talk to your friend? Maybe she has something that could help me out. I get it if that's not cool though.
So one person keeps the whole world in balance? We have popular heroes back where I'm from with one who was a symbol of peace but he didn't go around the whole world enforcing it...
And yeah it really sounds worth it! But man thinking outside the box is really hard. You can't really teach that can you?
no subject
the last world i lived in, a stranger just offered me a job at the restaurant he owned on my very first day. even fed me. sooo... never had any interviews before.
i hope the school gives us all kinds of training if they're already willing to pay us to go in the first place..!
as to katara's bloodbending.... ive only seen her do it once and it was intense. i think it's something... too emotional... for a stranger to bring up.
but maybe i can ask her about it for you next time i see her.
well the avatar is not exactly a hero.... more like... a diplomat. with immense power to back up any threats he has to make for leaders who are causing trouble or threatening the balance between the nations.
but he disappeared for a long time and the world fell into war for a hundred years in his absence so now it's his responsibility to restore peace. it's complicated. there's more on his shoulders than most avatars in the past.
and yes you can learn to think outside the box
in fact you must, in order to be effective in battle
try rock gardening
no subject
I don't want to bring up bad memories! The blood magic here seems pretty intense too. It doesn't mean I'm bad that's the magic I got here right? I got healing first!!
[ Excuse him for a few minutes.... A few, long minutes. ]
Man... I wonder if the Avatar could help us out with the whole issue with the fairy nation. But it's crazy how much got put on that one person where you're from. I don't envy the guy.
What is rock gardening?
[ He actually knows what it is, but in a place like this his brain is also concocting so many whacky scenarios involving magic. ]
no subject
thanks
i doubt blood magic is inherently bad or something
it can probably work with your healing magic somehow i bet
directly or indirectly.
even the most different philosophies of each discipline can bolster one another
my uncle taught me a waterbending technique that can be used as a firebending technique. everything is connected. even things that seem opposite — especially things that seem opposite.
rock gardening is where you move rocks and stones and sand around a garden in a certain fashion to achieve a sense of harmony and peacefulness
but as combat training, it teaches one how to use every part of one's surroundings to your own advantage in battle
by thinking outside the box
