1. what do you know about job interviews?
i didnt know you have to interview to get jobs. even if it's just at a restaurant!! regardless of whether the job itself involves talking to people at all!!? stupid
[ Guess who's been bombing interviews as a part-time busboy all over town. And who's only bothering to ask about proper employment beyond random quests, um, now, after several months of just getting by...? He must be getting tired of stealing hotchips from the cornerstore. ]
2. what do you know about going to school as a full-time student here?
i heard you can make a living like this
insight about going to school in other worlds could be useful too. i was homeschooled....
[ But at least he's thinking in terms of solutions. ]

i go to work, work, and go home. thats what youre supposed to do, isn't it?
it sounds like theres a lot of time to socialize in school too from what my friends' and sister's experiences seem like
but as long as it doesn't distract from my fire magic studies thats fine
alchemy huh?
i know someone with that. but he uses his magic for something dumb.
what are you studying with it....??
[ Now he's just nosy. ]
no subject
With my class we're all working on the same things so it really doesn't distract us too much. Actually, it helps to have people to work with to bounce magic training off and ideas off of too. My classmate Yaoyorozu-san and I both have alchemy magic so we've been working together. Things like that.
As for me specifically I've been working with glass, stone, wood and metal. I've just started learning how to manipulate crystals too but it's tricky to get the magical properties right since a lot of crystals have different elements and uses.
[He could go on and on... He's turning into a huge alchemy nerd.]
no subject
makes sense. working together on the same goals is good. i like that. do you work with people with other kinds of magic too? like in different classes?
so you can manipulate a material´s shape... or its nature?? give an example?
my friend has just been making tea with his alchemy magic..... and bottles for tea... this sounds more legitimate.
no subject
That's right, a lot of us have different magic so it's actually interesting when we train or test things together. How to block or counter certain types of magic or leaning how they work might really save us down the road. It's all part of training and learning, I think...!
But yes, I can change the shape of objects. Technically I'm changing the molecular structure of something so that it holds a different form or shape. For example... I can change the shape of my broadsword to become a spiked bat!
[He did that once. It was awesome. Just call him Full Metal Deku.]
I've done a few practical applications like that too though... Like fixing my clothes or making noodles...
no subject
where im from things like that are more connected than they might appear
that's an amazing skill, too.... the same magic that allows you to make noodles also allows you to mend clothing and turn your broadsword into a spiked bat? incredible
i use broad swords too but they stay swords
no subject
Have you ever tried to use your magic with your swords in some way?
[Even stuff like FIRE ENHANCED SWORDS?]
no subject
in my world people think the elements are all separated inherently but really they work in harmony. a waterbender can catch another waterbender off by using an earthbending technique with water, etc.
im sure there's similar ideology around this world's magics too
i havent no but thats a great idea
i could use my fire magic to heat the metal of my swords so it burns on impact
or just engulf the blade with flames entirely..
[ Which sounds cool as fuck, um? Thanks, random internet stranger? ]
no subject
Using fire magic with your swords sounds like a great way to use your magic with them! A fire-enhanced sword would be amazing to see. If you want someone to work with, I'd be willing to volunteer...! If you're up for it!
[Thanks for listening to his nerdy ideas, random internet stranger!]
no subject
theres firebending, airbending, waterbendeing, and earthbending
each person can only manipulate one element, depending where their family is from
except one person who can wield all four but that's the only exception, an all-powerful peacekeeper of sorts
my sister and i are firebenders from the fire nation
but my friend katara here is a waterbender from the southern water tribe. her brother sokka is a non-bender, he's here too.
etc.
i'd be open to it
are you a fighter back home too?
no subject
That sounds incredible, how do each elements handle when bending? Is it difficult? I have a friend who can generate fire and ice by regulating his temperature on each side of his body. He can create massive collections of ice with his right hand or fire blasts and heat from his left hand. Is it anything like that?
Have you met the person who can wield all four? It sounds like they're a hero...! Using all four must be a huge responsibly.
And yeah, I'm training to be a hero myself back home. I can fight, and I've been training harder with a broadsword here. I can help you out, if you need it...!
no subject
i wonder if the avatar could do that...... theoretically yeah i guess he could.
the avatar is what we call the wielder of all the elements. the avatar is reincarnated over and over and acts as the link between our world and the spirit world as well. it's every avatar's responsibility to keep the world in balance and at peace. the current avatar must end a war that's been going on for a hundred years in his absence.. it's a long story but he's gonna change the world. so yeah he's definitely like a hero
his name is aang. we're friends now. i taught him firebending.
what do you mean you're training to be a hero?? how does one plan to become a hero??
i don't need any help with broadswords. ive been studying swordsmanship ever since i was a little boy, under the fire nation's greatest swordsmith. i may not have my fire power where i'd like it, but my swordsmanship is fine. thats one skill they cant take away from me.
but i'd be down to practice with you anyway, though...
no subject
You taught the symbol of peace in your world firebending? That's amazing...! Your firebending must be amazingly strong. We might not have our abilities from home in this world but that sounds powerful, I wish I could see it.
In my world most people have a power called a quirk. It can manifest as any sort of power like my friend who can use fire and ice. I can use a power augmentation quirk to up my physical power and strength. I have a friend who can make explosions from his hands, too. Because so many of us have powers like these we can go to school to become heroes to protect others! We have to learn a lot, there's hero ethics, rescue tactics, combat training and learning to hone our personal quirks too. Just like you and the avatar have to learn!
Maybe you can help me with using my broadsword better? I'm still new at that since I usually fight with close combat... And I can help you with using magic with your weapons?
no subject
i trained hard every day for years and years though. it didnt come easy.
i can show you some firebending here though. i have fire magic even if it's not as good. and some bending techniques work kind of similarly.....?? it's different but similar enough you'd get the idea
quirks sound miraculous
and so does your school!! a school that teaches all that!! hero ethics and rescue tactics! and personal attention to hone your individual powers.... we don't have any formal training for that stuff. the avatar and i had to hash it out on our own. he found all his own teachers and carved his own path. i had my uncle but... i still had to carve my own path. i had to learn a lot for myself in the end...... i even lost my firebending at one point. but as long as you find an ethical inspiration to source your power from, it'll be stronger the harder you have to work for it
i'd be down. let's help each other.
i use twin dao swords just so you know
what kind of training have you received for your swordsmanship
no subject
There's nothing wrong with finding your own path, though! Working hard no matter what and doing your best... I feel like that gets us to where we need to be. Real heroes even if that's not what they're called in every world.
I'd like that! I'm Izuku Midoriya.
Ahhh I haven't gotten any real training from anyone who knows swordsmanship, though. I've been learning on my own. You have a leg up on me, there.
no subject
but yeah i'll do my best to explain sometime
you understand the concept of chi?
i agree with you
a real hero has perspective. someone heroic can't have lived a small life.
my swordsmanship training growing up was unusual
i can pass on some of piandao's philosophies to you perhaps
do you paint?
my name is zuko by the way. nice to meet you.
thats a japanese name right?? do you go by your given name or your family name? i have some japanese friends who go by one or the other, i dont know how it works sorry
no subject
I- I don't paint, though. That helps with learning swordsmanship?
[He's open to the concept!]
It's really great to meet you too. It is Japanese! Midoriya is my family name, Izuku is my given name. If it's easier you can call me Midoriya.
no subject
everyone has chi, non-benders too
but bending has a lot to do with chi. especially firebending. we must conjure our flames from within ourself, unlike waterbenders and earthbenders who manipulate the elements around them.
it comes from chi.
do you meditate?
i'll explain painting and swordsmanship in person
my master was.... an unusual man. he thought outside the box.
that's part of why he was the best at what he did.
creativity in battle is crucial.
ok. midoriya.
i don't have a family name. it's just zuko.
a lot of my friends here are japanese. almost all, i think. there are lots of japanese people, it seems.
no subject
I'm open to the idea though. It's probably the same sort of thing as one of my mentors telling me heating up a red bean paste pastry in the microwave is part of how I'll learn to move my body faster...
Or he just wanted lunch...
Are there a lot of people from Japan here? I've noticed a few! I think it might that Earth is popular... If that's how you'd say it.
no subject
waterbending directs chi differently than firebending after all.. not that a firebender could pick up and try to learn waterbending or something but you seem to understand what im saying
and yeah focusing your mind and breathing exercises are meditative
that kind of thing
it's very useful
i'm all for mindfulness and symbolism in combat training but
how the hell does heating up red bean paste in the microwave teach you how to move your body faster??
most my friends here and in the last world i was in are japanese
or at least lived in japan....
i can only think of a couple people i've met who are from earth but not japan
and a couple people who aren't from earth at all
but most people i've met seem to be japanese. maybe i just have a type. ha.
japan and the fire nation seem to have a lot in common. china too. i read about it.
no subject
Something like that. I think he was just hungry... But I did learn how to focus my power through my whole body? Instead of just through my arms!
On Earth- Japan is one of the most densely populated countries... so mathematically? It makes sense?
[Or the galaxy or whatever picks them to come here is just a big anime fan.
us. we're the weebs.]Your nation must be really interesting if it's a lot like those two countries... That sounds like something out of a hero drama show.
no subject
a lot of people think that firebending comes from the muscles in the arms because it's strong and forceful, but in fact it comes from the lungs
breath powers the whole body
chi flows throughout us. the stomach is sometimes called the sea of chi, the center of the self
so...... i guess microwaving a pastry filled with red bean paste is a pretty good metaphor for that too... i get it.
[ And now he's a little hungry, too. ]
you know my japanese friend hikaru told me that a lot too, when we first met
that my world was like a fantasy, my life was like a movie, stuff like that
and some other stuff i still don't know what it means like rpg but
to me from what i know about japan it seems the same way
maybe my world's just not as advanced as i thought it was....
no subject
[He's a bit amused.]
It's really amazing, though. There are all these worlds where I thought things like magic and fantasy were all just fantasy. Things I read in books and played in games. But no, there are worlds out there with magic. Things like avatars and firebending... It's amazing! Even if your world might not be advanced, it's still really amazing. Honestly, I wish there was a way for me to visit. That's probably asking too much.
no subject
[ Zuko is, too. It's rare he likes talking to someone this much. Bravo, Midoriya. ]
actually
i went to japan once
sort of
a few months ago there were these ... flower...tub..things.
were you here??
it took you to your memories, or your neighbors' memories
people i knew showed up in mine
and i showed up in my friend gokudera's memories
i got to see japan secondhand that way
it was like i was there but..not..
but it was so different from my world
i wish i could visit for real honestly
no subject
[He was a weird as heck old man but sometimes those are the best teachers.]
Eh?? I did see some of those flower tubs! I think they were pods you laid in? I didn't know other people were seeing memories of Japan too. I did have someone see my school in one of my memories. She thought she was one of my teachers...!
It would be amazing if we could visit other worlds. If there's a chance for it again I would like to see yours too. I feel like there's a lot to Japan to see.
[Become isekai.]
no subject
i got to see my friends' school and their town and his boss's mom's house and stuff
it was nice....... it wasn't like i imagined it
i wish i could show people my world at whim
it's so different from this world and what i saw of gokudera's japan
we don't have electricity or all this technology it's all foreign to me
ive gotten more used to it but it's taken what ten months.....
any high technology the fire nation has is used toward war
not like
movies or something
have you seen movies???? amazing
[ "Have you seen movies," he says, like this is some niche interest of his... ]
