konpeito_aji: (To war)

I know slimes and ghosts can't be fought easily without magic. I didn't say to not use magic. I said relying on it is idiocy.

[He doesn't give a fuck. He'll fight you face to face if he needs to prove he knows his shit. As it is, it's taking all his self control not to take control of this very post and just tell everyone what to do, how to do it, when and where, and laugh at the "picked up a sword at 17." Late bloomer? Nobunaga killed his first assassin at eight, and became a warlord general at 13. And have you met Bean? The kid is 7!]

Particularly since I still don't see what the fae have the rest of the populace doesn't, except magic.

Your scope is too narrow. You're focused on the fighting side, like it's a one on one fight -- and completely missing every other single piece of war. An army that doesn't get fed is doomed before it even makes a move. There is no single one piece of technology, weapons, or resource we can afford to dismiss. And I would never let a magic-user solely focus on magic to the point of starving themselves or not having a backup the second a foe is on top of them. Likewise, lancers shouldn't have no experience with guns or magic either. They need to have another weapon should one fail.

[Holds up both his Tanegashima and katana.] I never keep them further than my arm can reach. But I still use magic shields to bludgeon slimes to unconsciousness, I'm better with a bow than even guns, and if my katana gets stuck in a position that will take too long to dislodge, I can pick up any weapon and use it instantly. [Suck your "can't adapt." He isn't even annoyed, just lowered his estimation of Hawk's intelligence after elevating it for at least having the balls to make the post!]

The philosophy of focusing on one weapon and dedicating oneself wholly to it is obsolete, and how I crushed the demons of my world. No one can survive only by knowing magic. No one. Even my healing team in my world is led by a warrior I respect more than my brothers. [Phrased that way because he kind of thinks of Ieyasu as his baby brother. A LOT.] Enemies in war don't abide by rules of morality like respecting noncombatants.

Anyone who only wants to use magic to fight and doesn't want to learn a non-magical weapon for backup is a liability. They won't just get themselves killed, they'll get others around them slain. Period.

[He doesn't make Mai fight. But rescuers and people who just want to save and protect others don't need to fight.]

[Which he realizes he needs to say.]

In the future -- One of multiple possible futures of my world, there are heroes who do not simply fight criminals. They also rescue people from natural disasters. Such things are also an army's job. 100%. Without doing that, there is nothing that the army is doing other than pretending.

I created my army from nothing and took over part of the world. I'm not interested in conquering anything here. It's not necessary. Having an actual defense force that can handle magical catastrophes no one has even conceived of yet is vital.

[Have a verbal gauntlet. He's going to do this with or without anyone's help or permission or obedience. What's the difference? This world has magic, and more actual elites? As far as Nobunaga's concerned, that makes it easier, not harder!]
