[When the video starts, Gundham props his phone up on something before retreating a short distance and sitting in front of a dresser in his hotel room. On the dresser, four hamsters can be seen running around playing, to the side a bear the size of a large dog can be seen sleeping, and a red fox begins to sniff at the phone before Gundham makes a clicking noise with his tongue, calling the fox over to him. Despite being normally pale, Gundham looks a bit worse for wear, like he hasn't been getting much sleep.]

It has been some time since I arrived here, and I have decided to take the story we've been fed at face value. At least for the time being. However, more importantly, I think it is time I find a more... permanent and larger lodging, which would also necessitate money. As such, I believe I should start taking stock of the resources around here.

Ideally I would prefer to not work for someone else, but given the nature of things I've taken a position at the stables in Camelot. Hopefully that will provide the networking opportunities to eventually open my own shelter in the future.

[He sighs as he idly scratches the fox's chest, met with happy almost chirping noises from the fox.]

This still all seems so surreal. Has anyone made any kind of contact with this so-called "King Arthur" that supposedly rules this place? I would see what sort of monarch this place bends knee to...

[Nero has a reputation for... not being the easiest person to work with, and he's sure it'll follow him here before long. Oh well.]

It would seem so. Though to be honest, there are few here that I would rather be working alongside, albeit for selfish reasons.

[A beat.]

You remind me of a classmate of mine.

[He nods, motioning to the fox.]

Teaching a fox to not attack rodents when foxes primarily hunt field mice and the like has been an exhausting endeavor. One I am used to, but exhausting nonetheless.

Oh yeah? [It's an invitation for him to open up about said classmate, at least if he wants to. Though Nero is soon distracted by squinting at the fox.]

Couldn't you just... I don't know, keep them somewhere separate, instead of dangling snacks in the fox's face the whole time?

[Unfortunately - or perhaps fortunately for Nero - Gundham decides against elaborating on Nagito's... peculiarities.]

That would be ideal, yes, however given the... current lodging situation, there is very little that would be off limits to a fox.

Get a foxsitter until you can move in somewhere bigger?

[It can't be that different from dogsitting. ...Probably.]

During the day, my familiar can keep an eye on the fox as it hunts and my hamsters stay with me. The problem is at night. Still, it is a challenge I have conquered before and will do so again.

[Just... don't mind the yawning.]

I appreciate the thought. It's a hazard I knew I was getting into when taking in a largely nocturnal hunting animal.

No. Not me either. It appears that this world’s King Arthur seems to be this elusive to mythical status, isn’t he? Did you think that he must be gone missing or something?

It would not be without the realm of possibility, at least. After all, should the throne be vacant, with people like us showing up it would be beneficial to the powers that be to keep up the charade.

That is highly possible: whoever is in charge after his disappearance has a lot to lose with all of us being brought to Avalon. Hopefully they are of the friendly lot.

On the other hand, I am also glad that you have a job at the stables. I think an animal shelter sounds like a brilliant idea, doesn’t it? There might be more animals all around New Camelot and other places in need of loving owners and caretakers.

That all hinges on the voracity of the story we've been told about the nature of this place.

[At the mention of a shelter, Gundham was not expecting that sort of reaction. Sure he'd earned accolades for his work before, but rarely if ever in person. As such he wasn't really sure how to react and just defaulted to sinking into his scarf and turning a bright red.]

...Y-yes. I'm glad you can understand the gravity of such an endeavor.

(Harry both nods and faintly smiles in return.)

You are... a rare one. Not many our age would find interest in such endeavors, let alone volunteer to help with them.

[There's a nagging thought in the back of his mind wondering what Harry would get out of it, but forces that insecurity back. He's trying at least.]

[ The video starts with Midorima pushing up his glasses. Could he have started it after doing so? Yes. But he isn't very good with technology so he wasnt about to unstart it once he had finally gotten it to work and fixed them after the video feed was live. ]

I never put effort into studying Arthurian legend as I was busy with what I perceived as useful studies, but from what I remember, King Arthur died at the end of the lore. I don't know what that means for this place.

[ He definitely didn't think it would come up or he would've studied very hard... ]

The dead being reconstituted in some way shape or form is not something that far out of the realm of possibility. That said, should he truly be dead, it would mean this place is in a far worse state than we're being led to be believed.

What makes you say that?

Because it is a phenomenon I have born witness to. Artificial Intelligence that so perfectly mimics a person that there is functionally no difference makes death something of a hurdle for those seeking to carry on work from beyond the grave.

[ Midorima doesn't know what he thinks about artificial intelligence. ]

Any intelligent being will know they need to show their face to lead, artificial or otherwise. We'll find out soon enough.

And yet there are a plethora of ways to fake said reveals. Technology can easily project a false image, and I can only imagine the ease with which they could hide the fact that there is nobody on the throne with magic.

Is it truly paranoia to consider the possibility that we are being lied to, when said lies would obviously benefit a group of people in power? I am not suggesting that this is fact, simply considering a possibility.

Before we've even been introduced to the man, yes.

[ Midorima isn't exactly an optimist, but he'd prefer to see what comes up before assuming it's a possibility they're all being lied to. ]

Then let me pose a question to you. If we are as integral to the restoration of this place and by extension our worlds as they say we are, what possible reason would the leader of this effort have to not meet those entrusted with the future of all realities and escort them to safety and personally explain the plight we found ourselves in?

I do not know. A lack of knowledge means I need to find more information, not jump to conclusions. I will not say you are wrong, but you have no means to say you are right, either.

I would prefer to be wrong. I've had enough suspicion to last a lifetime. However, suspicion is a survival instinct, and to ignore it would be the height of folly.
