There's been plenty of historical good will on the part of the fae. For example, this was entirely their land in the first place, but they let humans come and settle on the island. As for humans, they've been trying to learn and study more about fairy culture and magic, and we have the Elphame traders who come to Camelot every month to trade peacefully. You could always ask them directly if you're curious about it.
On what basis would you say coexistence is impossible, anyway? It's not useful to get stuck thinking in absolutes.
