Those of you with familiars, I have a question - how do you name them? Did it give you any trouble?
What happens if they don't like it?
It doesn't feel like naming a pet, or some future family member. Waiting for inspiration to strike hasn't worked yet.
And now I'm starting to feel like I have to give this phone a name, too.

Ochako reels back from her phone when the image pops up, letting out a blood-curdling scream that she desperately hopes won't have any of her friends, and housemates, rushing to her room to see what's the matter. Ochako's not one for horror - she's a bit of a baby in that regard, and ghosts and ghoulies genuinely terrify her - so that...th-that really caught her off guard a bit.
With shaking fingers, she types her response, which uh...might not come out as well written. Gomen for that.]

Did your machine break? I can't read what this says.

No. I just
Got scared. ^^;;;
Sorry...

It's what makes him hard to name. He's harmless, so going with something too descriptive feels harsh. But cutesy names don't fit at all.
[It took her pulling herself together enough to post it for him to realise what the problem was, but now he really does feel bad. Imagine not being obligated to care for a horrible mutant monster.]

As for names--]
What about 'Ankoku'?
It means 'shadow, gloom, darkness' or similar things. It's not inherently bad, but...it sort of does describe it a little bit.
Or...maybe try asking it? I'm not sure if there's a way it can communicate with you or anything??

He's actually pretty easygoing when it's just the three of us. I doubt he'd object to any name I came up with.
But that's all the more reason not to pick something harsh.
["Three of us" meaning himself, his creepy familiar, and the voice in his head. Not that he thinks that's important to explain up front!]
Thanks for the suggestion! That one is a really interesting choice for a personal name. I wouldn't have guessed it wasn't negative.

Mine too...Aludra-san only seems to talk only when she wants to, and I've only ever heard it in my heart.
Or head...I'm not sure which, really. ^^;;
Yeah!! I thought it'd be better than just 'yami' or 'kage' which is the more formal word for 'darkness' and 'shadow'.
Good luck trying to find a name, tho
OH!! Actually, what's YOUR name?? I don't think I caught it.
I'm Uraraka!!
Uraraka Ochako. ^o^/

I hope you and your familiar keep getting along, too.
And that you don't worry too much if you see mine somewhere out there.
[He means it as reassuring. His familiar does like to wander off a lot for the sake of its own personal space.]

Anxiety +9000.]
Ah.
I'll probably faint.

Please don't? He's harmless, I swear.

I just...
I'm a big baby when it comes to scary things......
I really don't like them at all. x_x
But I'll do my best to be nice to him!! ;u;
[And she does genuinely mean that, because Ochako would like to get over her fear of monsters, ghosts, and other ghoulies. To condition herself to not get so scared and anxious in the dark after watching a horror movie or something, and combat things like that better, because heaven knows all of those terrifying things she fears exist in this world. She's already encountered them in the Land of Rot as well as that haunted manor...]

[He's not about to elaborate on why hearing it from someone who doesn't even know him still comes as a personal relief, but he can admit that much.]

I hope you have good luck finding a name for him though, Sagi-kun.
