A question, if you’d indulge me.

[His tone says that he entirely expects that people will - smooth, charming, in a pleasantly low-pitched voice which can either have the effect of drawing a certain type of attention... or making you want to punch him. Red Wine tucks his hair behind one of his long, pointed ears and idly folds a piece of paper in crisp lines. Anyone passingly familiar with origami would be able to see exactly what he was doing, though perhaps not exactly what he is making.]

I’ve been away from my home for a while now. I’m sure the same can be said for many people here even if they were not already in unfamiliar worlds before this one… [The movement of his hands pauses, and he stares at the paper for a moment before lowering it with a short sigh.

Travelling in unusual circumstances has a tendency to change people, whether for better or worse. Would you count your experiences here - or even elsewhere - as something of value, or something you would rather forget?

That's right. In this world - well, this multiverse - you can't always play nice.

[He's so not above getting his hands dirty! And neither is Red Wine, clearly.]

I'd say I'll miss the archaeopteryx as well, but in my world there's no place for creatures like them; our sky is full of air- and spaceships. No space for horses in the streets either, what with all the cars. And we've got crime and the occasional monster, just like Avalon. Honestly, it's neither better nor worse, just different.

[An archaeopteryx isn't something Red Wine is familiar with but he can gather enough from the context and simply nods. They understand one another in a way that doesn't prompt further questions and Red Wine considers Tierra to be much the same - crime, the occasional monster, but overall it is not a terrible place. It certainly can be, and there are some awful people there, but enough of it is good as to be worth saving.]

It's always good to keep that kind of perspective. As for me, I'm used to being looked at to solve problems that other people can't, so being here isn't too strange in that regard.

[Food Souls being made for a specific purpose, and all.]

If I'd been born as a Food Soul, meanwhile... I wonder what I'd be.

[Yeah. Whatever food might Toshirou "Mayo Freak" Hijikata possibly have been?]

Hm, it's hard to say. It could be something as simple as your favourite food, or something else entirely.

[With Tierra being his first example of such things Red Wine can only go on what he knows of existing Food Souls. Imagining humans as one of them is... odd, and it isn't an easy question to answer.]

We have our own individual personalities and traits, so it isn't as easy as being able to say what you might be just by knowing you.

That's fair. I guess we'll never find out - unless this place throws us for that kind of loop.

[Again, he wouldn't put anything past Avalon! He may miss the people and the magic when he eventually goes back home, but at least Edo is more predictable. A little.]

I'm not sure if I'd find it irritating or not, if it did.

[It would be very strange indeed for everyone to suddenly be Food Souls, but then again... he isn't sure if the magic here can even support that kind of idea. They are more akin to these 'Servants' he keeps hearing about than anything else, and it doesn't seem that they fare any better in keeping their original states and purposes either.

But perhaps a conversation for another time. Red Wine nods and gives a small smile.]

[He smiles back before ending the call. It's nice to be sent off to bed like this... he's really been away from the barracks full on other swordsmen for a long time, hasn't he? But a quiet tent has its perks as well (no pranksters barging in, for a start), so he won't complain. As long as some decent people are around there are far worse places than this island.]
