I did it!

(What she did might be hard to understand until she purposefully attacks her Light shield. Her sword bounces off of the brightness and her lovely Peko-Peko familiar caws her approval from the other side.)

I can keep her and hopefully others safe. This is the first step; I want to make a much bigger shield. One that I could place over an entire area.

What do you think?

Nice work! Light shields are one of our best defensive options, for all I can tell. I'm not a light mage, but I'd assume that since you've got the technique down already the rest comes down to endurance training.

Or can you gather light from your surroundings to grow your shields that way?

Perhaps it works in a similar way for light magic? (It doesn't, but he wouldn't know that the light magic boost consisted of the ability create tactile illusion scenarios by combining hard light and illusions).]

Thank you. I was told I should focus on producing them and it has taken me awhile to make them strong. (Padmé was basically a normal human, so learning magic and relying on a power inside of herself has been difficult.)

Avalon was kind to me. I have Siphon Magic too, so if I lack power, I can acquire it from another source.

(The sources usually being other people. She hasn't played with it much, but she has felt the pull when her reserves are low.)

Ah, siphoning. I don't know many siphoners, but it's a double-edged magic, isn't it?

[Siphoners can uncurse things and people, but they can also mess them up - at least that's his impression. Unlike Padmé he got a bit of a headstart on the whole magic business due to his prior stint on Prismatica, but Avalon's magic is a whole other level!]

Still, if you're a shielder and a curse-breaker you're going to be an immense asset to any party going into danger.

I haven't done much with it, but I could see it being potentially dangerous. I must trust the source I siphon from or I could do myself more harm than good.

(Padmé is the sort who would hold herself responsible if she accidentally harmed anyone.)

I want to keep everyone safe. That might be a bit overzealous, I admit.

Yeah, it doesn't always work out... but at least if shit happens we've got workarounds here. Healers, necromancers, the works.

[He says that so flippantly, but he knows that despite everything resurrections aren't cheap or easy, even here on Avalon.]

But that's right, if you siphon up a curse or such it can mess you up, right? What do you siphoners do with that mana, just blast it into the ether where it can do no harm?

Necromancers? Those are the magic users that can potentially raise the dead, correct? I am uncomfortable with that power.

That depends on the curse, doesn't it? I presume some of them are stubborn and they adhere to the siphoner. But I believe all curses can be broken.

(He can be chatty, he's fine! She has been purposefully cautious about using Siphoning because of his very questions. And she doesn't like the idea of weakening someone without their consent. In battle thus far, she hasn't had a chance to ask.)

Hm, that's a good attitude. I reckon a proficient siphoner can break even tough curses. As for the light shields, I guess it'd be easiest to shield large areas - like a whole town - with multiple mages. About necromancy, though, I'm with you on that, even though I'm a death mage. But then again a couple of people who got killed here - outworlders, I mean - got brought back to life like that, so it's good to have the option. We need everyone we've got, after all.

I wonder how many of us have Light? I haven't met any others. (She tenses at the mere topic of reviving the dead. It feels like it flies in the face of the natural order. Then again, deaths in Avalon can be entirely unnatural. Maybe instead she should look at it as...bringing balance?)

I don't know how I would feel if someone brought me back. (Avalon has technically already done that.) I want to live, yet I... I don't feel I am unbiased enough to make that choice.

Hopefully you won't have to experience it, but I reckon you'll find out if you die. If you'll be unable to accept your death and move on to the afterlife, be it because people left behind rely on you or other unfinished business, then you'll have to figure out what to do, continue to exist as a ghost or seek help from a necromancer.

I'm not sure how many light mages we've got in total, but I know a few. Maybe you've met some of them too? Junko, Ereshkigal, Maribelle, Gokudera... those are the ones I know.

[He missed out on a whole lot of light mages, including some he knows but whose magic types he lacks awareness of. Perhaps they could use a census!]

Believe me, I am well-acquainted with that decision. (And she doesn't have any answers.) I also think people crave things that are the worst for them. A death should be an ending - a time of rest. But I wanted to come back before I came here.

Sure, they were talking about it anyway, but for it to actually have happened to her... the two women he worries about the most in the face of the calamity died on their homeworlds, too, and he's concerned about whether they'll be safe frozen in time on Prismatica where he last saw them.]
