[Unlike everyone who isn't an asocial loner, Zelgadis prefers to keep his face off the network. He doesn't even really want to address the network at all, but he's kind of reached a point where keeping to himself isn't really working out. Sooo this is him stepping outside his comfort bubble, good for him.

Well, kind of stepping out of it. He just goes ahead and skips a proper introduction completely in order to get down to business.]

You'll have to forgive me if this seems like a stupid question, but the sort of technology that you have here doesn't exist where I'm from. To say that everything feels overwhelming is an understatement, but before I get too off track...

Same here. Or losing your mind to it. There are so many faerie stories about that. [Daisy used to tell him stories about that from books that she'd found in the library. Who would put books like that in children's section he had no idea, and many a night he'd find her wedged between them-- when he managed to sleep at home that was.

God, he missed those days.

A lot of people feel that way. [he rested his chin on his fist] I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt for now if only because everyone else is being so bloody recalcitrant. What if they're being honest and we're just wasting time?

They could be lying bastards too but we're not going to get anywhere if no one plays along.

Mm, of course. I've heard of that sort of thing happening. [Losing your mind or becoming possessed by demon lords, fun stuff like that. Magic is super cool that way.]

There are too many unknowns to be sure either way, and unfortunately I'm not even sure where to start when it comes to finding the truth. I suppose it's a bit overwhelming.

You start one piece at a time. [as he says that, he realizes it's true. If you tried to solve a case by looking at the whole thing, you lost your mind, it was the little things, the minute connections, the details]

Focus on one thing or a few things, but make them things you're good at, make them things you know. Ground yourself and build your confidence. While you're doing that, keep your eyes and ears open-- always listen, always watch, but don't jump to conclusions, just add to to the web of things you know. What sounds true, what conflicts with that truth, who said it and what motive they might have for saying it.

Mostly, though, you don't rely on just yourself. You've a whole network of people to exchange information with which is why everyone needs to work together. [a wry smirk]

[And it's good advice, because Zel is 100% the kind of person who would try to just rely on himself and try to tackle this nonsense on his own.]

Is this something you have experience with, then? You definitely sound like you know what you're talking about.

Overwhelming experiences? Aye. It's part of my job.

[and he enjoys it in a sense. It's exhausting at the best of times and painful at the worst, but the thought of pushing through, of doing his best to see -- at least the truth come out even if justice is still a rare thing these days. At least he got them there. At least there was the stain in the record and the rumor in the air.

He needed the challenge in a way, almost craved it. Was this place any different? Well it was magic for a start and not lashing the disparate threads of a mystery together to see what came of it-- He was out of his element but he would be damned if he didn't throw himself into it]

[Zel is no stranger to overwhelming experiences, but nine times out of ten he ends up being dragged into them by someone else, and typically it's less mystery solving and more ridiculous magic shenanigans.]
