[Not being able to go out into the daylight without suffering a nasty chemical burn death is driving Hijikata up the walls, but since Maribelle's call-out post last month thoroughly tarnished his reputation (though he eventually wrote her an apology letter that seems to have been well-received) he's opting to stay anonymous for this commission request.]

I'm looking for an armour-maker, or probably an alchemist, who can make me something like a motorcycle helmet (probably a suit and other accessories too) that'll reliably protect me from the sun. Some different kind of gear would be fine too, but it has to provide full coverage.

How reliably? Clothing usually protects you from the sun pretty well...

[Oh crud, it's Klaudia!! If she knew that it's him she'd probably mock and troll the crap out of him! Should he just ignore her response? But then she's a pretty skilled alchemist, isn't she? She totally transformed entire rooms in his presence, so maybe she'd actually be a capable person for the job? Perhaps he can somehow keep things anonymous if he provides any needed measurements remotely and gets the finished product delivered to his rented mailbox?

Anyway, he needs to provide an explanation, so he just writes the next best thing that comes to his mind.]

I mean. That is, it's kinda obvious. People don't ask for sun-blocking sorts of things every day.

You're in luck, I know alchemy *and* light magic. I can make sunlight-blocking clothes easily. I won't even need to outsource any other mages.

That's really lucky! If you could send me a design sketch or something and a price estimate I'd appreciate it. I just always remember the time when I was still alive and could be out in the daylight and see all the colours, and I miss it.

Oh, that sounds awful... How long has it been??? If I can ask that. Can I ask that? Is that rude? I've never met a vampire before. Are you from here or a different place? Are there other vampires like you?

I don't need money. What sort of style do you want?? I can make a bunch of things. Dresses, suits, sleeves, hats... I don't know what your preferences are. You have to give me some place to start.

Thanks to Gintama's fourth-wall-breaky nature he knows that the show is currently (~~at his canon point~~) airing in 2010, so he'll just do the math between that and the year it is in Edo.]

It's going on 150 years! I'm not from here, no. I think most people who aren't fae came from outside at some point. I'm not sure if I'm the only vampire here; I haven't met any others so far. But we tend to live quite secretively (at least I assume that the others do too).

[She doesn't even want payment... now he's starting to feel really bad. She may have been a total pain in the ass for him on various occasions, but he's still a knight and a policeman! He shouldn't scam her out of her dues with a made-up story!]

I'd like to at least pay for the materials! I'm not too fussy about the style, it has to be practical above all else (but I'm a man, so I'd prefer a suit). I'll make a sketch for you, but it's only a rough guideline.

[While Klaudia writes her response he take pen and paper and sketches a motorcycle helmet and suit, complete with annotations about how the former needs a face shield made of UV-protection-heavy glass (ideally two layers) and the latter a practical zipper. He's not a great artist, but it's comprehensive enough. Honestly, at this point he'd even accept an old-fashioned knight armour as long as it met the requirements.]

150 years??? Of not being out in the sun??? You didn't have, like... a parasol or something??? Why would you just live like that...

The secrecy is why you're anonymous, right? Can we still meet? I'll need to take measurements, after all. I promise you can trust me! I'm very good at keeping secrets. 🤐🤫 And I guess you can pay for the materials if you really want to. I'll let you know how much those are. Do you have a price limit?

It's too dangerous to just use a parasol. Sunlight burns us to dust! Even dim light on cloudy days is already very harmful. I really couldn't risk it.

[He's totally scraping together what little he knows about western vampires here...]

I'm sorry, but we can't meet. It's nothing personal, but I've made very bad experiences with vampire hunters and such.

[Now he's totally drawing on an experience on Prismatica, where some outworlders were afflicted with a condition that made them drain chroma, the local life energy, out of others... but he wasn't among the affected; instead he went to hunt them down. Still, a valuable inspiration!]

I'm sending you my measurements. But if it's too complicated like this, then let's just focus on the helmet, and I'll take care of the rest of my own.

The measurements are nice and all, but they're different from the ones I'm used to. I can convert them if I really have to, but it's going to make it hard to fit right if I can't take my own.

I believe that you're not a vampire hunter, but someone who sees this post might come to surprise us if we meet up. I'd prefer to avoid such risks.

If you can't use my measurements please don't worry; you can just make a helmet or suchlike for me. That's really the most important piece. I can take care of the rest on my own.

I can use the measurements! I'll just convert them. How should I contact you, if I need more measurements? Or when I'm done making it? How do I get it to you? If there's any problems with it, you can always contact me. Obviously!

If I'm using light magic in the enchantment, I don't know if that will bother you or not... But I don't think so? It should be fine? I will be expecting feedback when I'm done!

If you need any more details just post here again. I'll see that. As for the delivery, I'll send you my post box information from a throwaway account once you're done.

Of course I'll give you feedback, but I'd prefer if it you didn't use light magic. It'll probably do more harm than good.

I can't not use light magic in the enchantment. How else am I supposed to direct the light away? Light magic doesn't just create light, it also redirects it. It shouldn't be inherently dangerous to you. I can give you a sample if you want to test it?

I see. OK, I'll trust you with that then. Sorry, I don't know much about light magic (other than that it hurts).

A sample really might be helpful. Maybe gloves or something small like that?

It's okay! I'm the expert, so you don't have to know about light magic. But it might be useful to learn about it, if it's something that can hurt you?

I can definitely make a pair of gloves, though! I'll bill you for materials after I've made them. Do you care about color at all? I know people say that vampires like black clothes, but I think you can like any color you want!

I guess so, but I'd prefer to just stay away from light magic, also because I don't have any way of countering it on my own. So far that has worked out for me. And I know it's a cliché, but I'd like black the best!

[He's never branched out of his drab colour scheme, and he doesn't feel compelled to start now. The last thing he needs it to stand out in a bright red or orange outfit! (She could convince him into dark blue or green, though, if she really wanted to.)]

If you insist! 👿😩 But maybe a little colored accent? Just around the cuffs? Red is also cliché... Maybe green? 💚 Or blue? 💙 Or purple? 💜 Gold is always an option, too! 💛 If you're going to be wearing it a lot, then you should wear something that makes you look good. Just saying!
