Thirteenth: Killing the Mood (Video; un: Caster/forward dated to 14th)

[Unlike last Valentine's Day, Caster didn't come to the network late that evening looking for a distraction- instead, she used the chance to shatter romantic moods, and ask a question that had been playing on her mind for some time.

Of course, the video was dark, poorly lit and as suspicious as was traditional with her- the lower half of her face only visible by the gleaming of a strange potion brewing nearby.]

Good evening, Avalon. For those I haven't met yet, I go by 'Caster' here.

For anyone else who's grown tired of the day's festivities and would like to humour me- I have a question. Tell me, what is the afterlife like in your worlds? There are so many legends, after all, and I'm always interested in hearing in how they differ.

[A pause for thought, before adding, by way of deflection: ]

Ah. I'm working on some new potions at the moment- do come by if you're curious.

Well... After death, a person's spirit can stay in this world. They watch over their family and their descendants, and in turn we give offerings to them to sustain their happiness and comfort in the afterlife. But if a person feels wronged after they die or if their other needs aren't met, that could result in a ghost causing havoc for the living.

Prayers and incense. Sometimes food or drink, when appropriate. A recently departed spirit would receive ghost money or other necessities that they might want or need.

Do you not use incense where you're from?

[It doesn't seem to be used much here, either--at least not to the extent that he's used to. But he thought that anomaly was reserved for this place only.]

I see. It's sort of like that, but the idea is that they should be able to rest, if possible. It's our duty as the living to tend to the dead. A resentful spirit is harmful for the innocent people around it, and also harmful for the spirit that can't be at rest.
