Uh... did anyone else have someone show up at their hotel room door wearing a horse skull and only talking at you in rap before eating all your food?

[ He has so many questions about this. But first off... ]

Is...ah...rap? the strange rhythmic manner of speech?

Are you hungry? I believe the inn I'm staying in still has food. I could bring some to you?

Yeah, it is. It's a form of music I've heard back home. I wasn't expecting it to be used here like that. [But, really, he probably should have. This place has been weird enough.]

I can get more food eventually, and pay you back, but yeah. I'd at least appreciate some breakfast. Thanks.

Just... as long as it's not fairy food. [He didn't want to get stuck in Elphame.]

You don't need to. I like making large quantities of food for those who need it.

[ He pauses for a few minutes as he takes stock of what's hot. And the mention of no fairy food makes him smile. ]

There is some vegetable stew that's hot. And it's not been touched by the fae. Where should I bring it?

[Keith gave a relieved chuckle.]

I really appreciate that. [He listened for a moment. Vegetable stew sounded fine.] Yeah, that's perfect. Thanks. [He gave his room number.]

I know we're not supposed to use our real names in the fairy world, so, until we're back in Camelot, you can call me "Paladin". [Though, honestly, his inability to come up with a creative username sort of nullified that, anyway. Maybe the fairies wouldn't catch on...]

[ He always forgets that detail, so it's a good thing Keith mentioned it. ]

...You can call me Daozhang. [ Xingchen's imagination is rather lacking as well. It's one of the things Xue Yang calls him, as well as being what he is. ]

I will be there in just a few moments. Do you like tea?

Got it.

[It was better to have something than nothing, though, right? And they had to play it safe.]

Yeah, tea is fine. [He was used to tea from Shiro.]

[ Getting to help someone eat and enjoy tea is a delight for him, and Xingchen is quick in packing up a portion as well as getting the tea ready. He knocks on Keith's door in short order and steps back with a gentle little smile as he waits, tray easily balanced. ]

[Keith opened the door with a somewhat sheepish look.]

Hey... thanks.

[He stepped aside so 'Daozhang' could enter.]

Yes. Apparently that happens every year, according to the people who live here. Somehow, I managed to driver her away, but...

[She's not a rapping Disney Princess. It was quite a challenge.]

You were lucky, then, I guess. I have no idea how to do that. [Someone here was definitely not good at improv.] At least I know I'm not the only one.

[ Thinking of rapping makes her sad for personal reasons, even if the thought of this is mildly amusing. And terrifying. ]

That has to be the least shocking thing I've heard happening in this place, and I've been here since the first wave of arrivals.

Yeah, really. Though, shocking and weird seem to run independently of each other.

[Keith shrugged with a huffy sigh.]

Still, some warning would have been nice.

Can't say it isn't amusing, though? What did they rap about, anyroad?

I guess. I just have to find food that isn't fairy food now. [There was a soft sigh. He'd probably look back on this with mild annoyance and some amusement in the future.]

Just that it wanted to come in. I basically said no, but that didn't work, apparently. I guess I was supposed to rap back.

I've snacks to share. Made a few boxes to get by. There's plenty if you need.

Oh, thanks. That would be helpful.

I-... [Right... names are a bad idea here.] I'm a Paladin.

A Paladin... really. I assume it doesn't mean you're a Sultanasworn... those are the Paladins on mine own star.

[ She smiles then. ]

You can call me Matriarch, then. 'tis a pleasure, young Paladin. Do you eat meats?

[Keith shook his head. She wouldn't be the first to think of something other than what a Paladin was for him. Apparently, it meant a lot of different things.]

I'm a fighter, but the title goes with being a part of Team Voltron back home. If you know the Princess of Altea, she's the one that got the team together. Her father created Voltron. It's a large machine that we use to defend people. She's actually a Paladin with us.

[He didn't want to get Allura into any problems, so he avoided saying her name specifically, but giving the planet's name with her title shouldn't be an issue. He nodded then.] Matriarch. Are you a princess or a queen, too?

And, yeah. I do. I'm not really all that picky about food anymore. I've had a lot of different kinds. [He chuckled a bit.]

[ That amuses her and actually gets her laughing. ]

I've been called that at times, but nay, I'm no Queen. Just the Matriarch of mine tribe and family.

[ Her ears wiggle in a friendly manner. ]

Your Princess sounds quite accomplished. She's lucky to have a Paladin so loyal, then. What exactly is this "Voltron"?

[Keith blinked at her laugh, and then nodded. Fair enough.]

She is, honestly. Allura's done a lot back home.

Well, it's a machine. It um... We fight battles with it. There are five smaller ones that combine together to make a big one. The small ones look like lions, and then, when they come together, they transform so that they create what looks like a man.

Oh... machines that come together... how extraordinary! And you fight battles with it? It sounds much like the automatons used at the Hidden Gorge, back home. Adventurers get called in to use them in staged battles against each other. But there are stories about a big mechanical fortress too, protected by similar automatons. I've read even they join together and fight off anyone that dare near it!

[ as she's explaining, her expression grows animated and excited, and she realizes that with an embarrassed pause, then smiles sheepishly. ]

Forgive me... 'tis been so long since I've been able to speak of the stories I know. Are there different paladins helping, then?

No, it's fine. It's actually pretty cool that there's something similar in someone else's world.

[Keith nodded.]

Yeah. There are five of us, one for each lion machine. The main Lion makes the body and head, and then the other four each make a limb... two are the arms, and two are the legs.

Right now, the Princess is one of the legs, and I'm in the head.

That sounds so much more amazing than I can imagine. But I could say that of a lot of things on mine star... we've heroes on our own, called "Warriors of Light". The tales we hear about the one on mine own Star are incredible, especially the one who can travel across time and other worlds!

[ At least now she knows that they're not just stories. ]

So you Paladins sound much like the Warrior of Light! Heroes who go on great adventures! I'm an adventurer myself, but mainly a healer... if you've ever any hurts, you have an option on where to look!

[He supposed one could call it that. He smiled a little in thanks.]

I appreciate that. [If only she knew just how often he ended up in Naomi's clinic... Naomi might be grateful for the break.] I'll definitely keep that in mind.
