Out of morbid curiosity, has anyone of us otherworlders died during their stay here and then been brought back to life? If so, how does that process work?
I've heard there are other worlds (like this) where coming back to life happens but I'm curious to know how this place handles death.
Since we're connected to our familiars I can be imagine they'd be affected by our death too.

Or perhaps you just respawn?
I could have died a few months back, but didn’t, so I’m curious, too.

Respawning would definitely be easiest and nicest way to go by.

And what would happen to a person that is dead and waiting to be brought back? Are they a ghost? Do you think they get a new body entirely? What if their old body is destroyed beyond function? Does their soul then inhabit the newly sacrificed body if that is the cost of such a thing?
It would be. I died in the last world I was in, came back… relatively good as new. Had a weird defect, but it hasn’t changed anything too important.
I’ve been wondering a lot about the dead in this world, honestly. About funerals, and how death is handled in general.

I would guess you'd remain as a ghost until you're brought back if you don't respawn. Death mages can communicate with them. It would be fair to assume they are needed to actually find someone's spirit.
Rituals come in different varieties and strengths. I wouldn't be surprised if you inhabited the sacrifices body if your own is unusable.
I know the Death Ball happens in Lestari every year, but not much of funerals.

Just for discussion. I feel like it’s important, and not enough people ask the difficult questions. I have more, if you want to hear them. If not, it’s fine.
Were you ever on another world aside from Avalon?
no subject
No. I know of a few who have been.
no subject
Have you died before?
no subject
I have.
no subject
I think studying life here is maybe just as important as studying death, but I agree that it is terrifying.
It’s uncomfortable…
So if you left this world, you’d likely be gone?
no subject
But yes, both sides are equally important.
No. I'm still alive, even if I'm something other than a human. I've been alive for centuries.
... but I'm not a vampire.

I don't think anyone has, at least out of us otherworlders.
no subject
A lot of people who live here have died though.
no subject
And yeah, but things are different for us compared to them.
no subject
One option is definitely a permanent game over.
no subject
Yes, that's one option and one I hope isn't true. Just because it feels kind of depressing to consider.
no subject
It would be rather anticlimactic.
no subject
And yet probably the most likely thing to happen.

[Though it looks like they'll get answers faster than that, if Chara is looking at the rest of the post.]

[They may have checked other replies to this, and find it kind of disappointing! The answer that is.]

As for the question itself, I'd imagine you'd probably come back eventually?
no subject
You really think it's that simple?
no subject
[Leaving the message open to interpretation. What could the otherwise be? Obviously something super menacing, like whoa!
She's honestly just joking here.]
But, I mean, it's probably not simple. Normally the normal thing would happen, right? But there's nothing normal about this place. So why not? Maybe we get a pass on such things while we're here?
no subject
Yet death as a subject is also pretty tricky around here. Ghosts and spirit exists, Death Mages are probably here for a reason.
no subject
They probably are here for a reason, and since they do exist you might be onto something. Oh! Like some freaky necromancer that resurrects your corpse by shoving your spirit back inside your body!
...That might be kind of gross though.
no subject
no subject
Because that might be more troubling than just being a ghost!

Sorry, if I'm misunderstanding — Are you saying it's guaranteed those who are lost return here or are you asking if it's possible?
no subject
Of course this place does bring people here even after they've passed back in their home world.
no subject
Does it? I wasn't aware.
[ Which, to be fair, as far as she's aware she's the only one from her own world here. Beyond that, it's all news, especially given that the rules in her own world very strictly said people could not come back from death. ]
My apologies again for any questions that sound ignorant. I'm still new to Avalon and these aren't circumstances that would be possible in my home.
no subject
It's alright. As for your question, yes, it is. It's also possible for people to get dragged into this world from different times. Someone who you knew might turn appear here as a child. Or even after seeing something you have yet to experience.
no subject
Having not seen it myself, it's difficult to imagine any place where life-and-death and time is treated like a child's toy. Not that I believe you have any reason to lie to me either. But thinking about the dead walking the earth again... That one would always be a complicated matter.

Upon death, our familiars leave us. My first one was a firebird; now a different creation accompanies me.
no subject
Would you be comfortable answering a few more questions? I understand if not. Dying is not a simple matter.
no subject
My one request, however, would be to speak in private... And if you would be willing to answer, I would ask why you seek that knowledge?
