[ He's only making a new post because he doesn't want to directly engage the dragon killers (not that it will stop them from commenting on this one, but hey). ]
Tell me, those of you who are mortal: why do you deserve the lives you have been given? Why should we save your depraved worlds from falling to calamity when all you are capable of is slaughtering that which you fear and hate? Your childish arrogance, hubris, and ego destroy far more than I ever could in a millennia, and yet you continue to cry out for your pathetic existences as though any of you mean anything in the grander scheme of things. As though you matter.
Civilisations crumble and fall. Mountains may be ground to dust, or new ones arise from the ocean floor. The world changes, and yet the selfishness of mortals does not.
I pity you short-sighted fools.

Not in this world. You're the same as everyone else.

I have already outlived the rest of you by a thousand, thousand years, and I'll no doubt live thousands more if I remain here. I know very well how little I matter as an individual.

Maybe get an editor next time you decide to rant like this. I'm sure there's some great ones in Camelot.
Besides, it sounds like you're just searching for reasons to be proven right.

I guess one must ask though: why does it matter if we "deserve" to live?

All life matters. Living things do not have to earn the right to live, whether they are human, dragon, immortal, or some other creature. Life is precious without regard to whose it is.
If something lasts for a brief instant, why does that mean it shouldn't have existed at all? How can we judge the worth of someone else's experience when we don't know what that entails?
no subject
If that brief life decides to spend its time slaughtering anything it is afraid of, it ought to be the one put to the sword instead.

Have you not answered your own question, my friend? That selfishness is the reason why people believe themselves worthy of salvation. I fear it is you who is to be pitied if you wish to believe there may be a better, worthier explanation.

action!! as discussed
[ Normally, that would be the extent of their interaction, but today the other man appears fairly preoccupied with the communication device held within his hands. Somnus can understand how one may come to be disgruntled while staring at a screen with all of its tiny functions and incessant notifications. Technology is rather perplexing, and frustrating.
It is that which prompts him to speak once more. ]

Therefore, the difference between you and us is only in the duration of life. To use a metaphor, we are butterflies and you are turtle. Even if your lifespan equals tens of thousands of our lives— You will meet the same end and are subject to the same natural laws as us.
I believe it is the density of one's life and not its duration that matters in the end. I could technically have existed as an "immortal" back in my homeworld. But to me, this would have been a fate worse than death.
I do not have much to comment on the rest of your assertion. It is correct humans are savage creatures that are capable of doing terrible things. But this is ignoring the wonderful and beautiful things they are also capable of. For any given thing, you can paint it in a negative or positive light by focusing on certain aspects and ignoring others-- As you did.

Did you just try to imply that I don't know my own immortality?

I'm definitely not capable of slaughter. I don't even play the bad guys in our plays!
I don't know about deserve or whatever, idk what you have to do to deserve it, like maybe there's a memo or something but I just want to act and be able to smile for my friends and family.
But like for real if all of the civilizations fall at one time then there won't be anyone left and that kinda sucks too. It'd be like a gap in the ecosystem or whatever you learn in bio!! Then all the stuff slurps up and a bunch of stuff that relied on humans for food dies anyway like puppies and kitties and seagulls!
Do you need someone to talk to? A vacation?
Have you ever been to a puppy cafe, my dude? It sounds like you need to go to a puppy cafe.

Indeed. I cannot imagine a higher form of arrogance than to mete out 'justice' without the consent of the majority.
How fare you now?
