Shining Karaoke is recruiting.

[Well, it always is, but after recent losses, he figured he'd make a new post.]

Looking for a job? We have a variety of positions from wait staff to kitchen employees. We also recently lost both of our bartenders and would really appreciate to find at least one to occasionally help out and make drinks.

Though we may be called a karaoke bar, anyone under the age of 18 is still allowed to work for us - as long as you leave before 10PM each evening.

Contact me, Ren Jinguji, for more details. There is a small interview, but it's not a hard one and I generally like giving people a chance - especially if you don't have much experience. There's no way you will get experience unless you work, after all.

I have my own work to do, but I am curious. Why are those under the age of 18 not allowed to work after 10 in the evening?

That's usually the time we start serving more alcoholic drinks. You have to be 18 to drink in the bar, so I wouldn't let my wait staff serve alcohol if they're under the age.

And it's getting late by that hour. I want all younger staff to get safely home before it gets too dark.

So you are concerned about them stealing the drinks as they serve them?

[If the alcohol is at the establishment, wouldn't they have access to the stuff either way?]

No? I'm just being law-abiding in my own standards. I don't want anyone under 18 to drink alchohol, much less serve it. The alchohol is kept in a separate place until evening rolls over so they don't serve it at any point.

I trust my employees not to steal.

[In his mind, drinking it when drinking it against the rules is the same as stealing it. The only exception would be if someone were to imbibe the alcohol by accident... yet how could someone possibly mistake alcohol for anything else? The smell is telling.]

I can't say I understand your logic... but if one is a law-abiding citizen, I suppose it makes sense for them to keep abiding by the laws they've lived under.

I'm assuming Camelot does have some sort of law on who can drink and who cannot, but it's common for establishments to have their own rules - as long as they don't directly go against the norm.

[That would just make it illegal.]

Either way, everyone is welcome to come to the bar before 10 pm which I think is fair.

[Curfew at 9 for a masquerade, curfew at 10 for a business... Truly, the options are limited for someone like him, who keeps nocturnal hours. Perhaps it's for the better that he's not socially involved.]

Hello there! I don't actually know what karaoke is, but I do have a few months' experience tending bar and I'd be delighted to do it again. At a place that, er, still has any staff at all. Unlike the bar where I worked before this whole incident.

[He clears his throat.]

At any rate, my name is Zagreus.

As a simple explanation, karaoke is a term for people who want to sing songs they know but don't want to necessarily perform to a huge audience. There is a machine to help you remember the lyrics to a song and you sing along an instrumental version of it.

It's a pleasure to meet you, Zagreus. How are you with working late evenings? It's usually when the bar is open.

Well, I won't pretend I have any idea how that works, but hopefully I'll find out soon enough! It sounds like quite a time. Who doesn't love music? Maybe I'll bring my lyre one day. A day in the far-flung future when I'm not so painfully mediocre with it, that is. What I wouldn't give for my mate Orpheus to show up here and give me more lessons...

[The better to serenade Thanatos, of course.]

Oh, no need to worry about my schedule, I can be there anytime you like. I'm only just now beginning to adjust to times of day and night mattering at all, and to be honest, I prefer being out and about after the sun goes down. I don't think I'll ever get used to how bright it is.

Live music is always a plus. I sometimes bring out my saxophone to create a mood.

[Why not use his talents when he has them.]

Well, fortunately as we near winter, the days get shorter. It will be darker much faster so you'll be more comfortable being outside.

Would you be able to come over tomorrow for a short interview?

Well, I'm looking forward to finding out what a saxophone is!

[Zagreus blinks in confusion and a bit of alarm.]

Er, what do you mean, the days get shorter? What happens to them?

[Then he smiles.]

Absolutely! Just give me a time and place, and I'll be there.

It's a normal thing that happens during the end of the year. It's nothing to be worried about and the day gets longer again starting next year. It's something to do wit how the earth rotates around the sun... or whatever this place's explanation for it is.

[Since he's not even sure they're on earth.]

[The look Zagreus gives him is blank as slate.]

Rotates? I'm afraid I don't understand. Did Helios agree to any of this? Although that would explain why Nyx periodically gets busier for a while. Huh.

[And, indeed, at 4 the next afternoon, Zagreus shows up to Shining Karaoke dressed in a nice suit, but wearing no shoes. Instead, his bare feet appear to be smoldering like embers. He might have been late had Thanatos not urged him to get up and get moving.]

[Ren isn't even sure how to explain that properly so he'll have to leave him wondering about that.]

[Ren is working on the front desk when Zagreus arrives and he smiles at the man. Even with no shoes on, he does look properly dressed.]

[Zagreus looks around the place with curiosity as he follows Ren. It has a fancier atmosphere than the tavern where he worked before, but the fundamentals of the place seem to be the same.]

Ooh. Swanky.

[saxsongs]

[Ren walks towards the bar area, smiling.]

You like it? The interior decor changes from time to time into different themes, but the bar area mostly stays the same... unless the bartenders have different ideas that is.

[He stops by the bar that is rather well stocked with different sorts of drinks and mixers.]
