Hello, I wish you all safe and well. I hope you take the time to answer a couple of my questions.

I know there have been a lot of discussion around finding a job but is there one that is more appropriate for a thirteen year old?

Also, has anyone tried to do the combat quests yet? I want to know are they really as dangerous as they say it looks.

Finally, how do you deal with a familiar constantly likes to play pranks on you?

Don't go on combat quests if you're thirteen years old. I'm serious.

I got mobbed by goblins. And I'm tracking a giant flaming cat. Kids should not be doing this crap.

I wasn't going to try it alone! I was wondering if there would be someone who would go with me at some point.

[Even he knew he couldn't handle it despite wanting to be taken seriously]

Taking on a giant flaming cat or goblins isn't something I can do by myself. [Which isn't completely true but...]

Take your kids to work day.

[He heaves a sigh.]

All right. Next time quests come around, I'll try and find something appropriately non-lethal for a thirteen year old.

What kind of magic do you have? You'd better start practicing with it now.

[As much as Ken wanted to say something, he knew he couldn't. He really was just a kid no matter where he went, wasn't he?

I have animal magic but I know I need to start using it more. It's strange to be able to talk to animals now. [A pause] Not that I'm complaining though.

[Yeah, Jack has no idea what some kids go through. He's a prince, after all. And not a child hero one, either.]

Well, that's perfect, that's what I've got, too.

Won't disagree with you, there, either. It's weird as shit. The shapeshifting is pretty useful, when you get that far.

[And then Jack said the magic word]

Wait, I didn’t know about shape shifting! That’s amazing, I want to be able to turn into a lion! Or maybe even a bear! I can’t imagine what it would be like!

It's a little awkward, actually. You can't talk in the other form unless its mouth works kind of similar to a human's.

[Or, well, he hasn't worked out how yet, if it's possible.]

And you don't automatically know how to use it. Turn into a bird, and you have to actually learn how to fly. But there's some good things. Sharp teeth, sharper hearing, a good sense of smell.

Well, it's still nice to know you can transform? It would be interesting to turn into a bear and do some cool things.

[A pause]

Have you tried turning into an animal in combat yet? If so, how does that work? I want to see if I could do it myself too.

It's probably best to do you shapeshifting before you actually start fighting anything. It's not always instant, and it's can take concentration.

Also, you'll have to practice fighting like that, if you're going to be any good at it.

[Thirteen year olds should not be in combat in earnest anyway, no matter what form their in, c'mon kid.]

I know that! I wasn't going to rush into the combat quests right away, I was just curious!

[Even if he had some experience in fighting, he still wasn't going to do it alone!]

And I do have experience fighting! It's just I'm not use to doing it by myself without some help.

[He has to take a moment to pause and sigh and scrub at his face. He may be a shitty prince, but he has standards.]

Who exactly is putting thirteen year olds into combat situations? I'm serious, that is not a thing you're supposed to do in civilized society. That's-- you're a child soldier, if you've been in combat situations at thirteen.

You should be, I don't know, playing games with your friends or learning math or something.

[For a moment, Ken didn't say anything. While he did want to be treated like a normal teenager, there was a part of him that didn't want to be treated as such.

Should he really be the one to tell him?]

Actually, I've been doing this since I was ten but I was aware of what I gotten myself into. I was technically a solider but I still had time to go to school or play with my friends!

[...Even if said friends are 6 years older than him]

[Ten year olds do not understand what they've gotten themselves into if they're in combat. Jack may be many things, but someone who would condone that kind of thing is not one of them. He's glad this isn't video, because his expression is some mix of horrified and furious.]

The hell does your world need ten year old soldiers for??

[He still sounds kind of horrified and furious, though.]

[And here, Ken wondered if he should have said that or not. Based on Jack's voice, he struggled to find the words on what to say next.]

A world where you have to fight creatures only certain people can experience.

[He said in a voice that incident he felt guilty.] If I didn't join, there would be a lot of people who could have gotten hurt and they wouldn't know why.

[There was a little more to it than that but he'll just stick with that for now]

[That is the most fucked up thing he's ever heard. But the kid has a point, he can't exactly complain about making kids fight if kids were literally the only ones who could see something.

Which makes no sense anyway, but a lot of these people's worlds don't seem to operate on logic or sense, so why not that, too? He heaves a sigh.]

Okay. It's terrible, but okay. What was your name again?

[Somewhere, Ken really hoped his older teammates would forgive him. He really didn’t intend to give out information without letting them know. They probably wouldn’t mind but he was not looking forward to the day when he might see them here.]

I know but it’ll be okay. [Or at least as much as he can him and this person on the other end]

But my name is Ken Amada. What’s yours?

Jack Benjamin. I'm from a world with no magic, but it sounds like yours has some already, so you're kind of familiar with some of this?

It's really nice to meet you, Benjamin-san! And yes, I am already familiar with some of this.

[Pause]

Although, I'm use to using dark and light magic myself so I don't really know how to use animal magic. [That and he's so use to being on the front lines. How does he go from offensive to defensive attacks?]

That's okay, I didn't either, and here I am. I basically make a living talking to people's animals for them.

[Well, part of his living, anyway. Thankfully his expenses are not that steep so far.]

So show up at the buffet at the hotel tomorrow morning, and I'll take you around, we'll see what all you can do so far, maybe expand your horizons a little. Okay?

That sounds good to me, I'll see you then! I can't wait to get started!

[Will this go well? He wasn't sure but whatever may come his way, he needed to be prepared. That and he just wants to go talk to a bunch of animals. How cool would that be?]
